Flood warning in Northern California

Post by valerie »

We've had pretty heavy rains around here for a few days with only a

small break. Another big storm is hitting us today (and expected to go

into tonight) and now the latest forecast calls for the Russian River

around Guerneville, California, to crest at 38 feet sometime tomorrow

morning. That's 6 feet ABOVE flood stage.

We need some of this:

You all take care of yourselves. Even in my parts, we had rain all day accompanied with strong gusts. And it has been so dark. Probably just a patch on what you're getting. What snow we had has all been washed away now.

Bummer Far I hope it stays out of your house...:-5 Can you get out of there if it gets to close??? don't pin yourself in, have an escape route even its the roof of your home get the ladder out now and place it up aganist the house ... water rises so quick you timing will be the key, especially in moving water. Of course if you have a boat thats even better.. Start packing supplies in it now.

I don't want to bum you out even more but the weather isn't going to get any better in the near future. I hear up in your area an inch or more every 18 hours.

PLEASE BE SAFE AND PLAN AHEAD IN CASE YOU HAVE TO MOVE FAST..

Latest reports have the Russian River now going to 44 feet by sunday

a.m.!

Just took a quick trip to the grocery store, we have some streets where

the water has receded but they are TOTAL mud, at least 2 large trees

over on the golf course, and several places with a public works truck

out trying to clear flooded storm drains...

EESH.

Bummer for your son to bad he can't get there he would be of such help, as well as yourself at your job.

Just be safe there is nothing more dangerous than moving water because nothing can stop its advance, even more dangerous than fire, you can put a fire out with water.. but nothing doing with raging moving water..

JUST BE CAREFUL GLAD YOUR PREPARED..@!!

Not close enough to worry. But the big creek I live near (and walk by

on my morning walks) is up, I bet last night sometime it was over its'

banks... looks that way 'cause of all the smashed stuff, and the trash

of all kinds washed down from upstream...

Also heard on early news this morning that 101 was closed for a while,

don't know if that's still the case, but we are bound to lose more trees,

it's really gusty windy here!

(Puts me in mind of the storm back in '86!)

Reports coming in that the roof of the Mervyn's store in Pleasant Hill has

collapsed.

The city of Eureka is closed off due to mudslides. The city of San Anselmo

is blocked off by sheriff's deputies due to extensive flooding. Mudslide in

Santa Rosa hit one house, a woman was rescued by firefighters.

"Historic" flooding in the Napa Valley, with the Napa River at highest

recorded levels.

And the worst is yet to come for the Guerneville area, they are expecting

a river crest later today. Even though the rain has let up a little, they

continue to get run-off for several hours after.

Ship in emergency supply of everclear, quick!

Gosh you guys, be careful up there.

How soon until it hits down in So. Cal, Carla? My place there is very safe, and the water runs downhill, poor people down below. My kids should be ok, but now I'm going to call them soon.

All the severe warnings are up for his area, with winds up to 60 mph-looks very harsh. Rain might start tapering off soon, but the flood levels have been reached. The barometer is ver slowly starting to rise, but it still looks very scary to me! (I looked on weather.com)

Was just watching the news and they were showing pictures of San Anselmo. Flooded badly. Still rescuing people out of vehicles and taking them to safety.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Please keep us informed and undated. And I sure hope Far, that the water doesn't reach the inside of your home. Keep safe!!!!!

Doing okay here. I was going to go for my walk this morning but changed

my mind... we have really strong gusty winds and since a large part of

my walk is on a bike path between trees, I was a little concerned some

of them might come down! (It's happened before!)

We are supposed to get another 1-2 inches of rain later today and into

tonight.

Far, did you see footage of the young woman rescued from the yellow

pick-up? I think KCRA carried it live... I saw a feed on Channel 2 here.

The way that helicopter pilot held it steady... amazing.

A lot of freeways are still closed... Interstate 80 btwn Truckee and Reno

could be closed for a couple of DAYS until they get all the mudslides

cleared...

Oh, another 1-2 inches Val, that is not good. It is good to hear from you. And that big interstate is closed, wow, that is really bad.
