LC, Clancy, Sojo...I love candles, I bought some more t-light holders this morning as a matter of fact.

Do you light candles all year round ? I do, and out in the garden in the summer as well. The light from candles is beautiful.

I have some old 'salts'....the little glass dishes that were used with a tiny spoon before salt shakers. I burn t-lights in them, and because they are cut glass they produce lovely patterns...might even take a photo tonight ....

I am feeling positive about this year too....I will strive to remain upbeat, but thats not always easy .....we can be a cynical bunch, over'ere ya know....but I will make more of an effort this year

Seems like nearly all of us have had 'issues' in 2005....so say farewell to it and welcome 2006....IT'S GONNA BE A GOOD'N.

What a lovely idea for the old 'salts'.

Now that you picture them, I remember them on my grandmothers table. I always wanted to dunk my celery in them, but they wouldn't let me.......

I like candles also, I think cuz of the flickering of the flame. They are wonderful for meditating.

I think Friday is Epiphany, so there are four more days to go here..............then we take down the decorations next weekend.

Friday IS Epiphany, but it not one of the 12 days of Christmas. The 12 days run Dec 25th thru and including Jan 5th.

My husband is Russian Orthodox, so we celebrate the Christmas season until then. We also get gifts on Epiphany, he used to give me something pretty every year. I am going out shopping this morning to think of something nice for him, since he cannot really get out anymore. Something to do with those old football teams or something..........................(Go USC!)

What a lovely tradition.

The celebration of Epiphany is new to me. In the church I was raised, it was not a big deal. My chosen denomination celebrates this day with a church service. Prior to the service cake is served and their are 3 charms that are baked into the cake. Whomever gets them dresses up as one of the 3 Kings. Gifts are then presented (for the Church). The children are big participatants in this celebration.

It is a new celebration for me too, Sojo. I attend a Protestant church that doesn't celebrate it. But I think a service with the children like you mentioned would be lovely. And the cake with the charms, I always try to find one so my husband can have a slice. It reminds me of the cake they have before Lent, with the Christ Child in it, and other things. I will look up some traditions and make a thread on Epiphany on Friday.......................

Great! It isn't a well known church holiday and for the longest time I use to ask, "now what is it we are doing??????"

I used to think that about Lent, since some Protestant churches do not emphasize it too much. My beloved grandfather was Catholic, and faithfully gave up something every year for Lent-watermelon! The priest used to ask him why he gave that up, it wasn't in season. My grandfather told him that made it easier on him not to eat it! Oh, my grandmother was always mad at him everytime, while she faithfully gave up something meaningful.....................

Now days it seems the trend is to take on something for the duration of Lent to help you become a bette Christian.

I love the period of Lent. I especially love the Easter Eve service.

On Easter we ring bells whenever there is an Hallejah in the service or a song.

I usually follow a Lenten book for the 40 days. My very favorite was 'The Ascent of the Mountain of God'. I've done this one twice already.

I like the tradition of bells. I have already selected all the music for Easter, I did it last week. I enjoy Easter music more then Christmas music, it is more meaningful for me. Tomorrow I get to order the choir books for the cantata, and I have a lovely hour of music planned for Palm Sunday. I am going to have the children come in with the palm branches, and we still make the little crosses made out of palm branches the day before. It is a day long activity, and everyone stops by church to help out and have fun together.

Next week the Pastors and I will sit down to plan the Sunrise Service and Easter morning service, lots of meaningful types of music I hope we will do. I was looking at bell selections too, and haven't decided yet what to suggest, I will look at some more today.

I agree with you on Easter. It is the most holy day of the year. Our church also makes the crosses from the palms. Then, the following year, we bring them back and they burn them for the ashes for Ash Wednesday. A lovely cycle.
