he's been offline for a couple weeks, but i just emailed him this thread...he'll love it. ....i like hyacinth, but it's been repeated here 9000 times. enough! i can't get BBC but have to be at the mercy of my PBS for Britcoms, and they are unimaginative. i became very sick of 'are you being served'. vastly over-rated. i did like 'allo-allo'. i think 'thin blue line' is pure genius, and rowan atkinson one of the crown jewels. but 'vicar' has the best character development , i want to live in that village.

I love the britcom "EXTRAS" it was on HBO this summer, by the same group as the Office.. excellent.

Oh, Gawd... that thing !

Ther's an episode where Mr. Rumbold takes ill after eating a spoiled snack. Mrs. Slocombe is temporarily moved into his office in the meantime while he is on the mend.

Mrs. S. doesn't like the colour of the memo pads or desk blotter, so she phones the office supply dept. to order another colour (pink, I think). She 's told that they must use up existing stock before new items can be ordered.

She asks when the current supply of memo pads/blotters will run out. There is a pause, she frowns, and repeats the date, which is far into the future :

1984 !

There's another episode where the ongoing affair between Coronation St.'s Mike & Deirdre is mentioned. Corrie fans will know that was a long time ago.

Apart from the accent i think the humour is universal. Funniesst ones were whne he was in Spain and met a spanish Rab c Nesbitt, and the one with the Hebbie jeebies.

i have to rely on PBS. however, i have purchased most of my favorites in compilations. i never tire of them:)

They were on PBS to begin with. BBC America was a big dissapointment....after I got it it was all home and garden improvment shows.....It's a little better now but I hardly watch TV anymore.........Prior to to it though I had two PBS stations and I would watch a lot of "are you being served lol."

I don't watch 'Soaps ' much.... they are too depressing but are do love the 'Sit Coms'.

Eastenders rarely has anything nice happening in it....i know it's supposed to reflect real life, but when on the rare occasions i sit down in front of the TV, I want to be entertained and have a laugh.

I do watch Discovery Channel. Biography Channel, National Geographic and quite a few gardening programmes and athletics, some football, Wimbledon,....blimey i sound like a telly addict

Sat. night is Britcom night on PBS here, but i am sick unto death of are you being served!!! Bez i don't watch soaps either, or any network programming really, just keep it on the news and sometimes TCM classic old movies.

At the weekend I often have BBC news 24 on...it keeps me up to date with what's going in the world. I have had a bit more time to myself lately and like you, I've been watching a few old movies...can't beat them...

The infamous Reliant 3-wheeler featured in "Only Fools & Horses" was built a quarter of a mile from my house.

The factory no longer exists and these days, a housing estate is in it's place.

This is an iconic vehicle in Britcom history, although your average Joe wouldn't be seen dead in one.

Eastenders was funny though, you don't understand, we don't get very much British TV, and what we do get is usually "period pieces" or they are old and outdated....Eastenders was somewhat current and the fun with that was connecting with others (through casual conversation....before computer was ever on my table or lap) and talking about it.:wah:

I know they're not really sitcoms, but I do like Hospital series evers since i watched Emergency Ward 10 as a kid in the 1960s. Cardiac Arrest was the only comedy one I can remember. Helen Baxendale was excellent.

Yeah "Coronation Street" is one we never got. I have been watching British since I met a friend from over there back in 1987. We have lost touch, he lived in Dulwich and had graduated from Leeds University.

Before that I was waiting for Tiffney to get killed......I missed that. (becuse they would change the times they would show the Eastenders all the time)

I got satellite and didnt know hardly any of the cast and Din was just about to come back......BBC America jerked it so it's not on anymore on BBC America..........LOL
