Red Ken was head of the GLC when it was abolished by Maggie Thatcher for doing things like subsidising public transport to encourage people to use it instead of their cars. He was kicked out of the Labour party for speaking his mind but voted by the population of London to be their mayor over the official labour party candidate. Now they have let him back in.
He's hardly a fascist you moron which anyone who was actually british as you claim would be well aware. He also invited that well known terrorist Nelson Mandela.
Prison works you know Nelson Mandela has never re-offended.
Incidentally he is still known as Red Ken.
Castro is a communist not a fascist.
Oxford English Dictionary
communism // n.
1 a political theory advocating a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person is paid and works according to his or her needs and abilities.
QUOTE]Fascism /, / n.
1 the totalitarian principles and organization of the extreme right-wing nationalist movement in Italy (1922–43).
2 (also fascism) a any similar nationalist and authoritarian movement. b (loosely) any system of extreme right-wing or authoritarian views.
Castro is hardly a fascist either. Try and use the correct insult
One source who attended the meeting at which Castro was discussed told the Times: "It was like being back in the 1980s. I’m sure the London taxpayer is not going to be too happy about funding this sort of pathetic jamboree.â€
They didn't like Maggie or new labour either did they.
Mind you the S(OU was up in Edinburgh lnding his support to proposed road tolls for the capital. He should p)(O O(* back to England. We don't have decent public transport unlike London.

You don't live here with the great increases this year of public transport though... His stupid idea, it now costs £18 for a 3 day travel card rather than the £5 something for a weekend, that has totally vanished.
Otherwise I agree with you gmc, just needed to vent about the increase in travel

London Mayor to Celebrate Castro
London's mayor Ken Livingstone, who calls President George W. Bush "the greatest threat to life on this planet,†wants to celebrate Cuba's communist revolution by inviting Cuban dictator Fidel Castro to visit his city.
The visit would take place on the 50th anniversary of Castro’s return to Cuba to launch the guerrilla war that led to his communist takeover in 1959.
Once known as "Red Ken" when a member of England's loony left and leader of the Greater London Council, Livingstone is a great admirer of Cuba and has praised its health and educational systems, which he compares favorably to those of the United States.
According to The Times of London, Livingstone outlined his plans to celebrate the Cuban revolution to union officials last week. A Livingstone aide revealed that the mayor intends to invite the 78-year-old Cuban leader to visit London next year.
One source who attended the meeting at which Castro was discussed told the Times: "It was like being back in the 1980s. I’m sure the London taxpayer is not going to be too happy about funding this sort of pathetic jamboree.†:-5

I dont agree with Oxfords definition. My modern definition; Fascist: Supporter or Leader of opressive, dictatorial, non-democratic far right or far left Regimes.
Sadly if you want to communicate properly you need to agree on definitions and the meaning of words otherwise the discussion becomes meaningless. Interestingly enough both italy and germany were democracies. They got voted in to power and then took over. The communists on the other hand just took over, russia was not a democracy in 1917. If you are British you live in a country that has implemented many socialist policies with what used to be a social democrtat party running it. if you don't know that your education is sadly lacking.

At least you have public transport, we are getting road tolls with no alternative forms of transport for most people who currently use cars.

Actually it never occurred to me she might be a she, i had an image of some spotty oick sitting in a darkened room gazing at a computer hour after hour doing the typical teenage rebellion bit of trying to wind up the grownups.

Thats what I feel about the Oxford definition of Fascist, it focussed on Right because at the time we had a debt to the Soviets.
I dont agree with Oxfords definition. My modern definition; Fascist: Supporter or Leader of opressive, dictatorial, non-democratic far right or far left Regimes.
As a leader of such a Regime Castro is one, and as a supporter of that Regime Livingstone is one.
No the term fascist was noit coined until the 1930's when the name of an extreme nationalistec party became synonymous with that kind of regime. (the fasce was a bundle of rods and an axe carried by roman consuls to show their power of heath and punishment over the people) Nazi was short for national socialist, combining socialist ideals with national pride. Both parties took over in democratic countries by playing on the fears and prejudices of the populace and quashed dissension by at first making it unpatriotic and them using brute force and fear. It was as much a respose to fears of a communist takeover like in the soviet union as anything else people put their trust in those who said they had the country's best interest at heart. (There was a communist rising in Germany in 1919 how the nazis ended up in power makes interesing reading)
There is a saying that "History is the propaganda of the Victor" I think it was one of Stalins or Marx's comments.
Perverted history is the tool of those who would have you do their bidding.
You use pamphlet speak, why don't you try thinking for yourself. As a liberal I would defend your right to say what you like, which is more than the new right will do.
What you need to appreciate is that it was western liberal democracy that won against fascism and communism and is the victor in the cold war not right wing conservatism, they supported Hitler in his struggle against those wishy washy liberals and believers in all men being equal that weaken society.
liberal // adj. & n.
adj.
1 given freely; ample, abundant.
2 (often foll. by of) giving freely; generous, not sparing.
3 open-minded, not prejudiced.
4 not strict or rigorous; (of interpretation) not literal.
5 for general broadening of the mind, not professional or technical (liberal studies).
6 a favouring individual liberty, free trade, and moderate political and social reform.
What do you have against individual liberty and free speech and why do you favour a perverted meaning of the word, who's brainwashing you?

I think Red Ken is on to something that will put Britain back where it belongs. In the stone age. What a great way to get people to stay at home in their neighbourhoods for the rest of their lives.
They won't go anywhere. Do anything and when you need more tax money you know where they are. Awesome!
Travelling less can lead to people not knowing people from the other corners of the country. It affords, while bored wit-less by seeing the same same, same old everyday for the rest of their natural lives, them the opportuity of being able to fabricate stories about the different people in the different corners of the country.
If they can jack up the airfare as much then Britain will be all set for the coming 15 centuries. It'll be idyllic. You can then, in this modern take of rustic scenarios, listen to the sheep in their neighbourhoods bleat with joy as the frolic in the same old, same old fences around their kingdoms. It's the socialist's dream. Everybody quiescent to the call of the shepherd... Head Red Ken.
But he should be wary of this future because some people will be so incensed by the prices rising that they will start to walk to whereve they want to go. This will lead to their becoming fit and svelte compared to the fattening sheep that they'll probably statrt a political party of their own, which will win by default. None of the fatted sheep would or could make it to the polling stations.
They'll then (the new government) cut the transportation costs and the fatted sheep will see that it is not true that their northern neighbours own these vast fan farms that blow cold Northern winds into their neighbourhoods because Head Red Ken needed more tax money to buy them off.
Having claimed that he was having trouble with the South wind fan farms and it's all their fault, he'll then wander off with his huge pension to keep him company.
Meanwhile back in the pasture of the farm the people will discover, much to their surprize, that the Easterners in their country do not have tails.
