[quote=Jives]Pfft. Let's get this straight, Clancy. When I got into this thread everyone who had posted was for the film.

I'm against it. I consider it despicable, detestable and abhorrent.

What that means is that I'm antagonistic to you, not insulting.

Instead of bashing me for believing in old-fashioned values, why not consider what I've said? You, yourself, know that I'm standing up for all that's good in the world.

Why is that a bad thing?

Hi

I saw it last night and absolutely loved it. I can't stop thinking about it, to be honest.

The cinematography was simply stunning, and Heath Ledger's performance was a complete revelation. If he doesn't win an Oscar there's something seroiusly wrong.

Or one of these guys took it:

Joaquin Phoenix

Philip Seymour Hoffman

Matt Dillon :)

I loved the cinematography in that movie, too. If you've been through

The more mainstream the idea is that homosexuality is "as normal as they can make it" is what I object to... I object to the movie even being made becasue it involves homosexuality. Now I can't change that, I can't legislate or stop it even if I wanted to. But if you watch that movie, you leave yourself open to being changed by it.

Do you have nieces and nephews? They can say in their hearts it must be ok cause Aunt Val saw it?

This movie in my opinion is the "soft core approach". Its worse than if it was gay porn. Thy've made it an "innocent love story" awww dont you feel sorry that society wont let them be together?

Thats the approach.

It's just more gay agenda, but more subtle.

I do have nieces and nephews, Far. All but 2 are well into adulthood

with children of their own. All but 2 are Mormon. My having seen this

movie is not something that will ever be brought up with any of them.

I don't think *I* have been "changed" by this movie. But I'm a pretty

tough old broad, it's true.

I just don't think "kids" are going to want to see this movie so much

as some others think they might. Young teenage males in particular

I would think have a serious "ick" reaction to even the thought of

two GUYS "doing it". But I suppose I could be wrong.

To quote a song "My heroes have always been cowboys...

And they still are, it seems"...

This movie was pure entertainment for me. I dislike the thought of

a lot of censorship that would make it so *I* can't see a movie

like this.

And Far, I understand your concerns, I really do, and I still love and

respect you with all my heart.

There, I said it!

How can it mess with you? Do you mean psychologically?

My AV is a cowboy.. I joke and play cowboy here... lots of folks know me here, but new folks dont. And right now becasue of this movie and all the attention its gonna get for the nominations it may be that folks will relate my cowboy to being gay.

I dont much care for that.

It isn't that, it's the argument of is gay right or not, and to portray gay cowboys seems incredibly wrong for the sake of entertainment.

Its not tempting fate when you parent in such a manner that you instill confident assurance in morality and doing right no matter what the cost.

I parent expecting my chidlren to obey, and learn right from wrong. My oldest son is a prime example of right parenting. and I'm not tooting my own horn here, I'm passing down generations fo moral behavior and example. There is no reason why my children MUST be "rebellious teens" or go through the "terrible twos", it wont happen, yes they have times of adjusting to hormones etc. but that does not negate my ability to parent them through those times.

My children wont not because I'm going to shield them from it, My children wont because Im going to correctly parent them through making right decisions until they are ready to make their own.

And your oldest is how old? :D

Yes, in answer to your question, there are ignorant people out there that will take this movie and the 2 charcaters and start a ruckus to say that now cowboys who are sheep herders, are gay. Come to think of it, we cowboys have always wondered about those sheep herders. Cowboys-they tend and care for cattle. Sheepherders-they tend and care for sheep. So I think we have hit this all wrong. We are no longer talking of Cowboys as we are talking of Sheepherders. Cowboys don't tend Sheep. Think about that.................
