Isn't this "much ado about nothing"? C'mon, we go to a party where costumes are worn of all kinds, dracula, masks of politicians etc., and some get their nose out of joint because of the Prince wearing a Nazi Desert Uniform with the hated Swastika. Maybe he should have dressed like the Marquis de Sade.

A real tempest in a teapot, fer shure. After all, who among us at age 20 hasn't

done something we regretted later? Know *I* did... the difference was I

wasn't third in line for any throne. Well... okay gang, no smart remarks!

;)

The other thing I think about with this is the media forever after if Harry

commits some faux pas, they will trot out this pic.

At least I have seen footage of the good things he's done recently,

he and Wills.

I wonder if you would have felt the same if he'd have been dressed in a robe & had a mask of Bin Laden on?

Believe it or Not, I once went to a fancy dress in a British Army Uniform in Dublin, I was 20 years old. It didn't go down very well. I even got into the Irish press. :wah:

I agree with the tempest in a teapot line of thinking.

I've certainly done my share of stupid things and not

necessarily in younger days. It was in poor taste but

I don't think he had a hidden or otherwise, agenda.

Yep---I would feel the same. What about going as a Roman Soldier looking like the ones that crucified Jesus? You could make a stong case for not dressing up like anyone or anything at a costume party. Costume party's are mean't to be taken with a grain of salt. This politally correct stuff is way out of hand.

First off his lineage has a bit of history with the germans.

I was in The USA when this brike and was amazed at the furore, so I rang the old man back in blighty and he said the tabloids were going nuts in the UK as well.

How about John Cleese goosestepping in the Fawlty Towers "Dont mention the War" episode, funny or not ?

The top rated west end show in London at the moment is "The Producers" by Mel Brooks which contains the song "Springtime for Hitler and Germany", people are queueing up in droves to be "Offended"

that john cleese bit was the funniest thing ever done on "fawlty"! and "the producers" a classic...i think the furor is over the fact of a royal, whose great- granny was an abiding symbol of hope during the blitz, was a bit cavalier about the sensibilities of your Dad's generation. and he's a twit. ;)

Verily I sayeth unto you Lady Cop I am ill used by you calling a Prince of the Realm a "Twit" Beefeaters have been dispatched to your neck of the woods to administer Royal Justice in the time honoured fashion.

Actually I think he is more of a nerdy wimp than a twit, there goes the Knighthood

I saw The Producers in Toronto and hated it...

but back to Harry. There is bad taste and poor Judgement and then there is BAD TASTE and POOR JUDGEMENT. Hitler is right up there with him going as the Grand Dragon of the KKK!

He (I am assuming) would have a base knowledge of British History and I am certain with all the V Day celebrations and D Day celebrations he attended, with parades and veterans he must have known that going as Hitler was dogey.

My mind tumbles to black and White pics of King George & Elizabeth surveying the damage to buckingham palace by the Luftwaffe.

Harry is not going to live this one down, it's going to follow him ~ with that brush cut of his he already looks like a NeoNazi Lowrider, he is probably going to be on Tee Shirts all over the place. Just a real bad, dumb move.

I suppose its because the people of Britain expect more from 3rd in line to the throne, lets not forget something the royals are groomed from cradle to behave in the public eye as its the British public that are paying their wages.

After his mother died the press agreed to stay away & give the princes privacy and for the most part they have, but when they catch the same said prince falling out of a nightclub drunk & snap him punching a photographer or dressed in a nazi uniform of course they are going to break that pact with the royal family.

Isn't Prince Charles and his dad the same dude? What planet do I live on? Haven't had any brewskis so it can't be that! Wow! I can sell a story to the English tabloids that will show conclusively that the King in waiting is bi-polar.

Poor 'arry. He's got enough on his plate as it is. That's (dna) probably the easiest thing to do. As a matter of fact it is too easy. I wish him well. Glad the royal Queen is only a figurehead here. Gives me that edge in seeing him as a person and not a royal person. Come to think of it one of the reasons that I like him is because he's so common.

She's only a figurehead here as well although no doubt she has influence behind the scenes. She's popular only so far as she does what people expect

If I may use the general reaction to the suggestion that we all swear an oath of loyalty to the queen and not wishing to seem rude or anything but go forth and multiply. We only keep them to attract tourists, out of habit as a pleasant anachronism and because they are relatively harmless. What else would we put on our postage stamps?

Wouldn't postage stamps be cheaper if they hired some actors to pose for them? I mean paying umpteen million dollars every year for this crew could be cut down and the savings could go back to the people in the form of a tax rebate?

Someone mentioned the queen mother and her morale boosting trips to the bombed out East End. Here's the bits they don't usually tell you.

She made one impromptu visit to East London, however it was cut short very quickly when the locals began to throw abuse at her. Why? Maybe they resented her standing on top of the remains of their houses with a bloody silly grin on her face taking her photo opportunities dressed as if she was going to Royal Ascot. Or maybe they overheard her remark to one of her equerries - "This is all very interesting, but where will we be taking luncheon"? Every other 'morale boosting' visit was carefully stage managed.
