MY Ghost Story:** * ** * * ** **

Ghosts, like UFOs are never believed by people unless that person has actually experienced it. (Ask me another time about the things I saw in the Air Force)

As for ghosts.....Here's my personal experience. Make of it what you will.

In the late sixties, my very progressive parents took to taking in runaway flower children in Boulder, Colorado. These "hippies" were usually younger girls, who were destitute and homeless. My father was a scientist for the National Bureau of Standards, so we had space and money to burn.

The only rules that applied to the guest were:

1. You had to be in school or have a job. My family helped with both of those things.

2. No drugs in the house.

In exchange for this small behavior, the runaway was made an honorary member of our family. They ate at our table, stayed rent-free, and played with us kids.

One day a girl came along who was very different from some of the rowdier drifters that had stayed with us. her name was Rae Jean Kelly.

She had runaway from an abusive father, and I have to tell you, she was everything that was right about the flower power movement. She was a joy to be with, she wrote songs and excellent poetry. She played Sitar music and burned incense and was highly intelligent.

Although she had been through some hard times, and was sleeping in the street when we found her, she bounced back with an unparalleled enthusiasm.

With my family's help, she went back to school, cleaned up and began what we were all sure was a wonderful life.

She often stated that she had never really had a "real childhood or family" and that the experience had changed her and given her hope.

Then............one fateful night......She went for a ride with some of her friends on a high cliff road. The driver had been taking LSD. No one is quite sure what happened, but everyone in the car was killed. Rae Jean went into a coma and never woke up.

We were all distraught, of course. I was only 9 at the time but Rae jean had been my baby-sitter for over a year so I missed her terribly.

Her room had been downstairs next to mine, everyone else lived upstairs. About two nights after she had died. I began to have dreams. I felt as if someone was in my room.

During the course of the next few weeks, things got worse. I began to wake up in the middle of the night and hear music coming from her room. I could smell incense burning. Her perfume hung in the air throughout the house.

I finally couldn't take it any more, so I asked my mom one day if I could move upstairs. When she asked why, I told her what was going on.

She got the most horrified expression I have ever seen on an adult then or now. Apparently, she had also been having "experiences". She found the bed slept in every morning, despite the fact the the door had been locked.

She had found the furniture moved, and records on the turntable. Needless to say, we soon moved to a different house.

That would seem to be the end of this story, but a couple of years ago, I passed through Boulder again and decided to see my old homestead.

A nice German lady agreed to give me a tour of the house, despite the fact that her husband and son had been killed in a tragic plane crash the month before.

As I entered the house, I got that strange "hair standing up" feeling again. When we got to the room that used to be Rae Jean's, I noticed that the door was still padlocked shut.

I asked what that room was used for now and the poor lady turned pure white while she stammered, "No one goes in there anymore."

She went on to explain that the room had a history dating back to the original owners (us). This is interesting because we never told anyone about Rae Jean. It was a personal family secret.

Apparently, guests who had stayed in the room had terrible experiences. Attacks in the middle of the night, sheets being pulled off, books flying, that kind of thing.

Worse yet, the three families that had owned the house since us had all had terrible tragic deaths in their family.

You see my point don't you? Rae Jean is still there. Why? I don't know. Maybe it was the only place she felt comfortable in her whole life. Maybe she's waiting for us to return. Maybe she's just lost.

But there's no doubt in my mind anymore.

*shivers up and down my spine*

I love stories like this. I believe, even though I have never had an experience to prove it to me. I just think that there is much, MUCH more to the world than we can ever understand. Scientists poo-poo the ideas, but there are just too many instances out there to dismiss the entire idea. Great story, Jives!

Thanks, BabyRider. Poor Rae Jean. It still makes me feel a little sad to think of her. :-1 That was almost thirty years ago now.

in my local county jail there are civilians who work in the "towers"...they control buttons that open and close cells and block doors at the officer's behest. they can look down the entire area through glass one-way windows. the medical examiner's office is in the same complex. a female who had been a frequent "guest" in the jail had been found murdered and floating in the river. she was laid out in the ME's office for autopsy. well about 0300 the tower operator looked down into the block, where all inmates were locked down and asleep, and in the middle of the empty dayroom stood that female, dripping water all over the floor. she called for an officer who entered the block and there was a puddle of water. that tower operator would NEVER work nights again. heh heh

Angry at a life cut short?

Angry at Death's arrival just when everything seemed to be looking up?

Or just angry at an unfair world?

Who knows....poor Rae Jean. She's a reminder to me to always, always kiss my wife in the morning and tell her I love her. Then to enjoy each day for the miraculous gift it is.:o

I can only think of two reasons:

1. She's upset at being trapped there, watching everyone go on with their lives, unable to interact with them. She would just get more and more jealous and sad, and those feelings are bad.

2. Perhaps she misses my family? Maybe she felt betrayed that we left her there and went our way in the world, never to return?

I honestly don't know.

After I die, I'll ask God to let me try to find her and bring her back to Heaven.:o

Ok. I dont discount anything I dont have a concrete answer for. Im open to these ideas as they have not been proved nor dis-proved. If this is so I wonder why some get caught in the middle while others seemingly move on uninterupted ? Do some have unfinished business ? Caught in some inbetween existance ? Makes for interesting possibilities Jives.

Interesting, Jives, and, I understand, quite typical.

Here is my own 'ghost story'. I've never told ANYONE before, because if I had, I was sure they would consider me silly and the story sillier, but it's absolutely true, and since this forum is anonymous, here goes:

I was living alone in Virginia Beach and had a good job, but the company went out of business and I had trouble finding work. I finally took a minimum-wage, part-time job at the public library, not adequate financially but better than nothing.

One day, just before going to work, my sister called and told me that my uncle George, far away in Texas, and who had had a long bout with a debilitating illness, had died. He wasn't even a blood relative but the husband of my dad's sister, but he was a terrific guy and I loved him dearly. I went to work but was VERY distraught and in tears for most of the day.

A couple of days later, my money ran out - completely. The next day was payday, so I knew I wasn't going to starve, but having NOT A CENT in one's pocket, nor much food in the house, makes one really panicky and insecure, and of course, I was still upset about my uncle's death. I thought, 'if only I had a dollar, I could at least go down to the corner store and get an ice-cream cone or a Hershey bar.' I certainly didn't need it nutritionally, but it would have improved my mental state substantially.

I went through all of my pockets, where, to this day, I NEVER keep loose money, and in a coat pocket I found a dollar bill!

Instinctively, I said, "Oh, thank you Jesus," and from behind me, my uncle's voice, unmistakable with his Texas accent, said, "Thank you GEORGE".

I spun around, and of course, there was no one there, nor did I ever hear the voice again. I went down to the store and bought my Hershey bar, and ya know, that was the best-tasting Hershey bar I had ever eaten. I have no doubt that my uncle, known for his off-the-wall sense of humor, bought it for me as a going-away remembrance.

I just love these stories.

One of my fave websites is www.theshadowlands.net. There are loads of ghost stories on it.

Anybody got any good UFO Stories? I was reading a book from Sylvia Browne the pyschic and one of her prophecies is that we shall encounter aliens by 2007.

One of my good friends in a physisist (I know I've spelt that incorrectly) and he claims that we shall never see aliens because they couldn't by our standards ever travel so far. Interesting huh? :)

Amazing, Jives. Like SnoozeControl, I can't imagine why she was angry. Why she's not at peace. Why torment the one lot of people who have been good to her? I never knock ghost stories. I've been involved with one or two odd things myself, where there doesnt seem to be a rational explanation. I guess there's more things in this world than we dream of in our philosophy, to misquote whatever I'm misquoting.

Wow Jives! Chilling!

As CC says - she's probably not being vengeful. They say spirits are trapped in time. Maybe she needs someone to connect with her and help her to move on. And as she cared for you...you may have to be that person. Perhaps if you could take someone with you who can communicate with spirits, between you you could help her move on. That would hopefully stop any more tragic deaths from occurring also. Rather you than me though! Brrr!
