OK---I believe I have read all of ChiptBeef's posts, and while I still reserve judgement on where he's coming from, I read nothing in his posts that indicate he's a troll. Unless you consider posting things that disagree with your own political persuasion or religious convictions to be trolling. I have read far more controversial posts on Forum Garden than those posted by ChiptBeef. I for one will not put him on by IGNORE list--------------yet.

There are lots of links that one might find offensive, does that mean that we ostrazise the poster of the link. I have posted links to forums and newsgroups that covered ideas that I don't believe in, but posted for general information. Due we rush to judgement so quickly?

Thank you for a voice of reason. I never endorsed the link personally. I was merely trying to provide information that put forth an opposing view to encourage debate. I despise guilt by association, which is clearly present in this instant case.
I did take notice of that sole link because it contained factual information about Mr. King's plagiarism, but then thought it might be of interest to FarRider since he/she claimed a lack of knowledge of Mr. King. Funny thing is, no one question that claim. What adult in America doesn't have a basic knowledge of Mr. King from the history books in school?
I was offended by the unfounded racist remarks and labels directed towards me, as they had no basis in fact. I was attacked in that manner after only 4 posts as a member of this forum for one day. In my mind, that's very troubling as to a possible double standard as there wasn't a similar level of outrage and reprisal proposed against that member. Just my thoughts and opinions. No links.

It's a matter of heritage. It's something I grew up with, and of course my mother made the best I've ever had.
I think it goes much deeper than a screen name. When you challenge the staus quo, you often become a target, like Mr. King. He stood up to the establishment and was even jailed. Since a select minority here cannot control me, they try to impose sanctions of their own (i.e. call for a massive use of the "ignore list"). That didn't come as too much of a surprise, based on prior attempts at intimidation.
Accountable Post #33, "Alito Confirmation" thread, General Forums, Current Events:
"If you are concerned about inclusion, note that you have not been banned."
As if he has the ability to make that happen, even though I have done nothing that would warrant such actions. To the contrary, one of the threads I posted about Hillary Clinton's false FEC reports was closed by accident. When I inquired, I was assured by forum officials that I had not violated any forum rules. But, that doesn't stop Accountable. He calls for a psuedo "ban" of his own. If the select minority is unable to debate, it's just as well that they make themselves invisible.

OK, I'm jumping in here even though I haven't been around much lately and don't have the full picture of what's been happening. From what I"ve seen so far, (and I'll be looking around more) I see CB as having some very different views from the the largely tolerant group we have. Most of you know my views on topics such as these, and have not ostracized me. Granted, CB is going through a "probationary" period, as it were, just as every poster does. We are all skeptical until someone has been around a while. Also granted that if he would take part in the more light-hearted threads, we'd be less wary.
(As I'm typing this I'm cringing at the "we" and "them" lean my statements are making.)
I for one can see where he's coming from in a lot of the stuff I've read from him. I can relate. He sounds somewhat like me in a lot of his posts. But you all tolerate my views.
See where I'm headed with this? I won't be ignoring CB until and unless I have reason to. So far, I don't. A radically different viewpoint isn't enough to warrant discarding his input.

Millions of people world-wide oppose certain aspects of liberalism, and the subsequent bi-products that emerge. I do not consider that "a radically different viewpoint." I consider that reasonably main-stream. I'm just not big on group-think. I like "thinking outside the box." Diversity is good.

You need to stick around. There is actually a cery wide spectrum of people, cultures and attitudes apparent on this forum and on some issues deep and passionate disagreement that get expressed without falling in to yaboo arguements all the time.
Reasonably main stream means what exactly? Try explaining what you mean to someone on the other side of the planet where a liberal is a cuddly inoffensive midle of the road politician and where if you claim to be a socialist the next question is what kind of socialist.
Given how much america owes to liberalism what aspects of a believe in individual liberty and social responsibility offend you?
I'm curious, is all you can do spout bits of the last pamphlet you read and post links to controversial articles or is there more substance there?
From the Oxford English dictionary
liberal
• adjective 1 willing to respect and accept behaviour or opinions different from one’s own. 2 (of a society, law, etc.) favourable to individual rights and freedoms. 3 (in a political context) favouring individual liberty, free trade, and moderate reform.
Now tell what what is so objectionable about being a liberal? It seems to me in America those who oppose individual liberty have managed to change the meaning in to a convenient insult.
What's chipped beef by the way?

Have you read this thread? You obviously posted something about MLK that upset a few folks. And based on that upset, the underlying theme of this is the old civil war flaring up again. Now if you want to research the political schemes and reasoning of the those times, you will find ample material on-line. But this whole argument has been done before. The Americans call it the civil war. 1860-1865. The north won when robert e. lee surrendered at the appomattox court house. The issues that followed the war, which they called reconciliation, including the assination of lincoln, is where you will find this very same argument.
Good 'ol boys, refers to the mindset of the south. Tongue in cheek remark, I assure you.

I knew a lady that made what she called "grease biscuits." My wife asked for the recipe. When the lady got her breath back from laughing so hard, here's the recipe.
1. Get a broad bowl (wide and shallow). Hers was wood and abut 18 inches across.
2. Put some self-rising flour in it. She filled it about half.
3. Get some grease (shortening), how much depends on how big you want the biscuit.
4. Drop it in the flour and work it with your hand until it feels about right
5. Put it on the cookie sheet and make another biscuit.
6. Bake. "What temperature?" we asked. "What do you mean?" she responded (her oven was ancient and she used pliers to adjust the gas, as the knobs were long gone). "Okay, for how long?" "Till they're done!" She answered irritably.
They were delicious!

This thread has nothing to do with the "theme of this... civil war flaring up again." You might find a thread like that in the "History" forum. Unless, of course, you are simply trying to add fuel to a fire that shouldn't be burning in the first place. Since you brought it up, could you define "the mindset of the south?"

ChiptBeef wrote: Yes, I have. Have you read the title of the thread? Mr. King was a civil rights leader in the 1950's and 1960's. You are obviously getting the "civil rights movement" confused with the "Civil War." This thread has nothing to do with the "theme of this... civil war flaring up again." You might find a thread like that in the "History" forum. Unless, of course, you are simply trying to add fuel to a fire that shouldn't be burning in the first place. Since you brought it up, could you define "the mindset of the south?"
Obviously you havent paid much attention in school. Let me educate you then.
First and formost, the civil rights movement is TOTALLY based upon the civil war. Most of the blacks in the U.S. are decendants of slaves. Get it? Whites owned them. They were classified as property. On the same lists as cattle and poultry. Shameful though that is. The southern mindset has always been not seeing them as fellow humans. If you knew anything about the state of existence for those people, you wouldnt have the cheek for bringing it up.
Their rights as human beings was totally denied them by the white majority south. They NEEDED someone like Martin Luther King. I assume you are white? Well at least you dont have to worry about someone burning a cross in your front yard. Or being blown up as you worship in your church. This is still going on. But I digress.
The civil war was fought because a number of states decided to secede from the union. The reasons are varied. But one of the issues formost stated was the abolition of slavery in the south. The south felt slaves were necessary to keep up the work on the plantations, as the south was mostly agricultural. Living in virginia you should know this.

the mindset of the south?"
It was never more apparent to me after I moved down south that the mindset that caused the civil war in the first place still lives and breathes. The differences were mind blowing, it was like being sucked into a vacuum. The north and south are still quite different in regards to racial issues (for the most part)
