The record reflects I started a thread to merely discuss the pointed issue of Mr. King's plagiarism. That would not, in and of itself, require lengthy and doctorate level discussion of the entire civil rights movement. I'm not the one that took the discussion off course.

Since both Lincoln's & Washington's birthday's were in February they were combined to the middle of their birthdays on a Monday or Friday. (We all lost a holiday)

No we still celebrated both in the beginning, the only reason I didn't after that was because my jobs did not recognize them as holidays.........then King day came along....There was a big mess with Arizona too, I don't remember why they changed (they refused a King day) I think they got some kind of sports team or something and that they observing King day was part of the contingency.:rolleyes:

When I wrote national holidays, I was referring to federal holidays observed by our government. Good Friday and Easter do not fall into that category. Sorry if it was too vague.

I think we should try to live Mr. King's dream everyday. Why not remind ourselves of his legacy and human qualities (good and bad) everyday?

Why not? Because I don't get a day off every day thats why.I don't even get super bowl Sunday off,Now that is a reason too celebrate,Next too x-mas and easter it is the most family orientated holiday of the year.Even non sports fans gather too enjoy the feeling.THIS is what greatness is about.

I was thinking more in terms of in our everydy lives, whether it's a workday or not. Maybe just as simple as inviting one of your friends from work, or a neighbor of another religion, race or creed to your place for the Superbowl. That would be a start.

What? Jives is confining the celebartion of civil rights to one day? Shouldn't we strive to live the "dream" of Mr. King every day? Some could argue that such a sentiment might be viewed as racially motivated.

In example: "They get one month every year to celebrate (African-American month) and their leader gets a national holiday. That should be enough. Let's move on."
