Canada has new leadership
Canada has new leadership
after 12 years in power and a hard hitting scandal just before christmas our Liberals are out but not gone, the conservatives won a minority government position. Not the best news, but it was predictible. What does it mean to me... better government for being fair to the west, but again only a minority government. I voted with my heart now with the lesser of the 2 evils idea. Thanks for your insight ACC, but at least the sacandalous Liberals are not in power anymore even though my party did not win. As well it means the hot shot NDP party didn't get in by some fluke and stupid voting, they are not a government I support in any way shape and form. So we shall see what lies ahead for Canada.

So the conservatives won more seats than anybody else but not over half, right? If your gov't is anything like ours, this is a good thing. Nobody gets to rubber stamp anything. Things will move slowly & deliberately.

you got that right Acc. As well you all south of the great line will like this guy better, he should improve US Canada relations. Sad thing he won by 10 seats only it means just less than half the seats were for the criminals the liberals. Silly

They're lucky. Here Labour won less than a third of the votes but still hold a majority of seats and therefore the government,:-5 :-5

That's incorrect, minks.
The 308 seats in the House Of Commons were won by the elected candidates from four parties, and one independent :
Conservatives : 124
Liberals : 103
BQ : 51
NDP: 29
Ind. : 1
Neoconservative Bush supporting Americans will like Harper. He certainly loves them.

I cannot say I've always voted for my party in the general election in this country. I listen and read and vote how I feel is best. I am registered with a party so that I can have a say in the primary election. OK!!!!!!!!! I am a registered Republican - shoot me - double dare you. Remember the Grinch gave me a 50 cal for X-mas.

With nearly all polls accounted for early Tuesday, 64.9 per cent of eligible voters had cast ballots. The 2004 election saw a record low turnout of 60.9 per cent, the worst showing since 1898. -cbc.ca
At least we got the number of voters up. A little bit.
I hope they can accomplish enough that we won't need another costly election for some time again. Paul Martin stepping down was the highlight of the night for me. Belinda Stronach being asked if she would run to replace him was the biggest joke, imo. Not that I'd put it past her.

Frankly, Steven Harper and a lot of his right wing views scare me, however that being said, I support quite a few of his ideals. With a minority government, he will need the support of at least one opposition party, and this will hopefully bring some good debate and some common sense....hopefully! I am not a card carrying member of any political party and never will be. I have some 'right' views, some 'left' views and some middle views. I will personally be watching Steven Harper very closely in the next while, as I'm sure most Canadians will be. :yh_glasse
I agree I am conservative by birth and location but he scares me as well and after some long thinking a minority government will be ok.
