Iran's Holocaust Conference

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran on Tuesday defended its plan to organize a conference to examine what it terms the scientific evidence for the Holocaust.

At the United Nations, the Israeli ambassador said the conference plans were proof that Iran was run by an "extreme, fundamentalist, lunatic regime."

The planned conference, which has drawn condemnation from Western leaders, is yet another step in hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's public campaign against Israel.

"For over half a century, those who seek to prove the Holocaust have used every podium to defend their position. Now they should listen to others," Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hamid Reza Asefi, was quoted as saying Tuesday by the official Islamic Republic News Agency.

Ahmadinejad already had called the Nazis' World War II slaughter of 6 million European Jews a "myth" and said the Jewish state should be "wiped off the map."

Dan Gillerman, Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, said the planned conference was "proof of what a global threat Iran really is."

"I fear that the only reason Iran is showing so much interest in the Holocaust is because they may be preparing another Holocaust and it is up to the world and the United Nations to prevent that from happening," Gillerman told The Associated Press on the sidelines of the opening of the "No Child's Play" exhibit at the U.N. commemorating Holocaust remembrance week

anyone else find it disturbing that Iran is holding this conference?

It's just a matter of time until Israel attacks Iran, and a nuclear strike wouldn't be out of the question, if Iran continues to rachet up the insanity, and proceed with their nuclear weapons research.

Yea, I read the other day where a deal has in the making between Russia and Iran. The deal is for Russia to enrich uranium for Iran. That's kinda scary.

THe French were building a reactor for Iraq around 1980 when Israel decided to bomb it into rubble.

It was in the midst of being built, and had no radioactive material on the site.

Iran's nuclear program is up and running. If Israel destroys the sites, even by conventional bombing, radioactivity would be a problem.

Should Iran continue along it's current path of lunacy, Israel will destroy their facilities, regardless of the consequences.

You cannot threaten Israel with annihilation and get away with it.

First, he says the Holocaust is a "myth" and then he blames the completion of the "myth" on Israel. Such faulty reasoning should be expected from a racist like Ahmadinejad. It will be interesting to see who attends the "conference." Wasn't Louis Farrakhan in Iran recently in support of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad?

I have no idea about Louis Farrakhan being in Iran. I do agree though it will be interesting to see who shows up at this conference.

but why should Israel be allowed and Iran not?, its a basic question,

surely Israel poses the biggest threat to he area BECAUSE of its allowed nuclear weapons.

*I thought Iran was wanting Nuclear power, when has it changed to weapons research?

Ok orpheus, I understand the it's not fair arguement. However do you feel safe letting a country who's leader is a nut have access to nucleur weopons.

I have never heard Israel threaten to wipe out another population. Also if iran is just after nucleur energy, why did they stop allowing the inspections?

No, Israel just invades other nations.............then builds a wall.

What I am saying is why does anyone have the right to say "no, you can't do that."?,

they don't.

And in some peoples opinion A nut already has access to nuclear weapons, and has the greatest stock of chemical weapons.

In ways your right no one has the right to tell someone or a country they can not do something. However I think in the case of Iran, prevention is needed for the good of man kind.

If you had a friend who was about to do something that would cause several people to be hurt you stop him. Or if you had the capability to stop a nut from shooting innocent people on a street you stop them right?

We have a collective right, and obligation (IMO), to stand up to a crazed individual like this racist president of Iran. Armed resistance was employed against Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich. Collective, the world has the resources to make sure this racist isn't allowed to perpetuate his agenda. We should use those resources to the fullest extent possible.

Did not half the population of America fail in their obligation?

what you are mean is,

we are biggest, we can do what we want.......despite international law.

We declared war (In 1939) because of his (Hitler/Germany) invasion of Poland for no reason and under false pretences, by your rational, Bush and America should surely fall under the same catagory.

Me?,

no I am a realist, in this great attempt to purify the world we (America/UK) have infact become the aggressors of the world.............trying to tell other countries what to do using threats of war.

The fact Iran is digging its heals in is only helping our great coalition because it was fairly obvious that Iran was the next country on the list of places to invade and regimes to change.

He was elected by popular vote and the electoral college. Are you equating President Bush and all those that voted for him to the racist president of Iran?
