Why does no-one seem to care an authoritarian, totalitarian oligopoly is soon going to become the newest superpower?
Should we not either be;
A) Treating the Chinese with complete indifference until they begin to make some liberal political reforms (The most important being the free vote and a free press)
OR
B) Threatening them with treade sanctions, crippling their economy and forcing them to make political changes.
Why are the Western nations so spineless with real threats such as China?

European leftists cut China a lot of slack simply out of hope that someone, anyone, will eventually topple the USA. And as long as the Chinese government is denying human rights to Chinese people halfway around the world it's not their problem. Out of sight, out of mind.

It seems no one cares about human rights violations in China, and the Olympics will be there in 2008. I take that to mean money counts more then life attitude.
China
It's China's rapid economic growth I'm talking about.
If the UN agrees to impose sanctions that would stall their growth. We'll see just how anxious they'll be to change their system if their money wasn't so free flowing. The mature democracies of the west must stand up and be counted.

I think China would be very unhappy if harsh trade sanctions were imposed but I don't think it would result in democratic reform - the same way sanctions have not brought about reform in Cuba or North Korea and weren't about to in Iraq.

Sinicization of Russia

It is a very good programme, this idea of Russian neutralism. Who knows, those young girls and boys in Vladivostok who are learning Chinese, who are dynamic, who are able to interact with this new civilization, might produce a new Russo-Chinese or Russo-Eurasian paradigm. The problem is that, unlike cultural interaction with the West, interaction with China has no roots in the past. People are scared by this paradigm, afraid of being completely assimilated by the Chinese, which would be no Eurasianism but the Sinification of Russia.
Vladiostok can't survive without China, and her mighty chinese servants. Russia should be better a part of china. Historically, Russia was a part of Mongolian Empire, and the successor of Mongolian empire is Qin dynasty in china, and why not we become the lord of Russia?
yes this is like the landlord's heir's..(sons, daughers... ), have come back from vacation.
maybe the sinicization of russia will produce a new breed of people, asians with blond/brown hair and blue eyes.
I don't know if this one is related, but it's still flaming:-3 A good sample of arrogant people

Correct. But Europe is in a half to be sinified. Those chinese students will immigrate to the countries of their study, and become citizens. It only takes 30 years Europe become part of chinese union. UK will be part of china much sooner, and France will follow. Only those German nazis cannot be fully sinified, but we will gradually make it civilized.
If you like to know the true nature of chinese, I recommend going to chinese
forums, there you will see outrageous bigotory.

"Oil and white genes are what china needs."
Is some kind of racial inferiority complex going on? That and then their hoping to one day be able to breed blonde, blue-eyed Chinese people. :-3
"German Nazis," too. :wah: I wonder what the China-loving German left would think of that. :p

Those threads are rather distasteful, and full of propagandas from all sides.
But you can see some aspects of chinese not widely known by European.

Korea is a slave to China. So are Japan and Vietnam, we know it, they know it.

Chinese had been migrating thru Korea into Japan and from Taiwan into Japan long ago. Somewhere between a semi-civilize Japan to Han dynasty. Its even recorded in our history. They found QuFu tomb at Mount Fuji with Chinese characters and Mount Fuji came from the word QuFu. try searching it in the internet. When we arrived there, we found a bunch of Ainu + polynesian savages and then we conquered you guys and establish the first japenis imperial house. Then the second wave came from a sinized Korea that included both Koreans and Chinese..and they ****ed your ancestors too, and hence Japenis is just a sub-race of Chinese.
btw, all mongoloids came from Siberia. Real Han and Mongols and Tartar and Manchurians and Koreans share the same genetic marker and are classified as the same family. Japanese is somehow a ****ed up race
You are no different from the Viets we conquered and establish the Southern Chinese. However, we couldn't fully assimilate you guys due to the sea factor. Northern China was also easily assimilated, except for Korea. Initially the whole North was proto-Mongols, but were absorbed. Han or earlier known as HuaXia were an agrarian altaic group branched out of the Siberian altaics.

Well, you find crazy things being posted by people of all sorts of different nationalities pretty much wherever you go, I wouldn't make up my mind about a whole country just from a couple of kooks on one forum.

Nashi pear can be replaced with Ya pear. Or cannot?
China
I never had a ya pear! Though I'd be happy to try one sometime. I know Japan grows a lot of nashi pears too but the ones in the stores here come from China.

Since the mid-80s, I have been wary of China and have sensed an underlying threat to the world. Since then, they have come a long way. They have already displayed their financial strength, but the profiteers have heeded it not.
I really should allot some time to this problem but I have so much on my plate already. They have displayed a general disregard for human life and rights, yet not a single nation stands up or even 'squeaks' against them. Taking back Hong Kong was a definite turning point in their development.
They are extremely close to being able to pull down the Western hemisphere in one financial transaction. What I can't determine is what they are waiting for.
