Sounds like it comes from a Native American language. (Something that I am very interested in) Does it? It is rather unique! Just wondering... :yh_peace

wenutu wrote: Well done...full marks. It is Native American or First American or whatever the phrase is we are supposed to use these days! I don't know anymore than that.

I am also interested in Native American stuff, but unfortunately don't get as much time as I'd like to read my books...perhaps this will get me going again this year
"First American"? Is this a phrase used where you are? I have never heard it said that way, and I AM Native American. Do you know the tribe that "wenutu" came from?

Being "politically correct" has always aggravated me. You have to watch every word that comes out of your mouth. What a waste of time. Native Americans is "correct" while "American Indian" is supposedly offensive. Why? Because Columbus was looking for India and he found the U.S. instead, hence "American Indian". Big freakin' deal. Too much time wasted being sure you don't step on ANYONE'S toes. Sheesh. You're bound to step on toes just trying to juggle all the PC terms! :yh_doh

I notice that you say you are from Southern Ireland. Do you refer to the top bit as Northern Ireland or the North of Ireland? I only ask cos I lived in Belfast for a few years and it mattered a lot up there :) Northern Ireland, part of the UK. I'm Southern Ireland down the road :-5

wenutu wrote: The whole PC thing certainly has gone too far! I can't remember where I heard the phrase 'first american'...it's possible I made it up :o

I don't know what tribe 'wenutu' is from but if you find out I'd be interested to know. But more interesting than that is your own native american-ness...tell me more :)
Hi again! I tried looking for the word's origin, and the closest I could come is that it's POSSIBLY Ojibwa. Not certain, though.

And what do you want to know? :yh_peace

wenutu wrote: It's simple really...I thought you might not be particularly fussed cos all the people I met in Belfast who wanted a united Ireland, didn't talk in terms of Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. They referred to Ireland as a whole and talked about North and South, a bit like someone might talk about the North and South of England. Just a mere observation. Nothing more. Nothing less. :)
Of course many of the people in Belfast that you met want a United Ireland. Down South, many of us don't want a United Ireland. :driving:
