Hiya Chonsi *waves*

This is a FAB idea as there is much I'd like to ask you!

Firstly, I don't know what age range you teach or what subjects, but I hope you can still help. I was teaching my daughter Maths using my son's maths book (he's 2 years older). We were working on Mean, Median and Mode. I thought I knew what I was talking about but my answers came up differently to the answers in the back of the book! Although they give you the answers they don't tell you how to work it out! If I found the sum would you be able to tell me why my answer was wrong?

My second problem also concerns my daughter. In Primary school she was bullied incessantly by another girl. The school dealt with it and my daughter had friends who helped her deal with it too. Then they all moved onto Secondary school. ALL of my daughters friends went on to an all-girl school. However, the bully-girl was also supposed to go there, so, to get my dtr away from her, we sent her to the school my son goes to, which is a mixed school (I think you call it co-ed). Then, when term started, bully-girl turned up at the co-ed school!

Bullying is rife at this secondary school! Bully-girl has surrounded herself with like-minded girls who are viscious towards my daughter. The school have an anti-bullying policy, but in truth they turn their backs and ignore it! It got SO bad I pulled my dtr out of the school to home school her. Although she no longer has nightmares and floods of tears everyday, she still seems very sad and much quieter than she ever was.

I tried getting her into the all-girl school with her friends, but they say they are full. Well actually, her Head of Year said there were spaces and started making arrangements to admit her, but then the Headmistress said she was a friend of the Head Teacher at the co-ed school and she said my daughter must go back to face up to the bullies and she refused to give my daughter a place. My dtr faced a huge gang of bullies and had no friend on her side. I worry if she goes back they could physically abuse her. What would you do if this happened in your school?

I am trying to homeschool my dtr but she has no interest in anything and just wants to hide away. She never sees her friends anymore. I'm trying to work with her on English and Maths and some Geography and History but I haven't even tried Science or RE or Languages as just the little I am doing requires major effort.

She is sad and lonely and needs to be with friends and in a routine. Can you suggest anything else I can try? Many thanks Chonsi, I really hope you or Jives can help! Hugs!

Mean: The sum of a list of numbers, divided by the total number of numbers in the list.

Median: "Middle value" of a list. If the list has an odd number of entries, the median is the middle entry in the list after sorting the list into increasing order. If the list has an even number of entries, the median is equal to the sum of the two middle numbers divided by two.

Mode: For lists, the mode is the most common (frequent) value. A list can have more than one mode.

Homeschooling is difficult alone. Look for networks of homeschools in your area, where they can meet weekly and the parents and students sit down together. Then you can help each other with problems that occur in your studentÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s course of study. This will keep your daughter socialized with other students, and not so lonely for peers. Some of these groups take field trips and other activities together. Punch in your zip code and homeschooling into google to find some groups. If you have problems with that, PM me and I will help you look.

If your daughter has school problems she needs answered, you can always PM me or Jives for resources and links to possible solutions.

I teach 7th grade World Cultures this year, and a college class on Western Civilization. I am credentialed for secondary education (7-12 grade) in History, Social Studies, Biology and math.

Hmm, forging parent's name happens alot.

The dumbest stunt-crossing the freeway to take a shortcut to a friend's house.

That child died.

There are lots of tragedies in teaching, at my school usually something bad happens at least once a year. We are lucky this year. No fatalities.

Yes, I laugh all the time. If they try to throw something in class, with their arms stretched out to pitch it at someone, and I catch them, they get plenty of arm exercise the next day washing the boards at lunch, while I'm on FG!

If they try to look cute about it, it never works. If they look like-wow, did I do that-I laugh.

I always took my kitty with me-my father "indulged" me this lovely family addition. The little Korean kids thought I was the strangest girl, who walked her Siamese cat on a leash, all over the place. But they loved me anyway.

I ask them "Where do you want to be 20 years from now?"

Do you want to be here, in the ghetto, working at the factory? Or in a better job and place?

That usually makes them think twice about dropping out of school.

It is also one reason why I teach Middle School, and not High School anymore. When they walked out of your room saying they were leaving, they did. They dropped out of school. I felt that badly, and wanted to see them grow up more and do well. Many of my students are now nurses at major hospitals, business owners,or in college on the road to a good life.

:wah: And that is what they always say!

I tell them, especially during college football playoffs, to check out the players majors. Not all of them are P.E. majors-lots are doctors, law, psychology, etc.

There is a restaurant chain around here, run by a former football player. I tell teh kids-how did he learn about going into business, if he didn't study at school?

The Life of Alexander by Plutarch-because I loved the ancient stories so much I became a history major.

Oh, my mother had a pair of tacky wooden spoons hanging on the wall-that was a 60s decor. Carved out of wood, all fancy dancy. He hated those spoons, but my mother loved them. Us kids broke the spoons, using my borther's Pooh Bear as the ball. I was the pitcher, and my brother the batter.

And like the dummies we were, we put the spoons back on the wall! Like my mother wouldn't notice. My mother threw a fit!

Oh, the truth about Santa.

Well, I thought it up one day when you were Grinching it up in the Pub. Minks and I were PM-ing, and I told her "I'm gonna fix Far up good." I disappeared, and came back as Santa. Minks was laughing so hard, I'm surprised we couldn't hear her down in the states.

So, we brought on Elf, and Elfette and the whole gang. Now, knowing Tombstone is not listening.........................the characters were share and share alike. You will never know who was who, at what time. I was always Santa, because I had promised Tombstone Santa would only be used for good. I hope I never misused that responsibility.

Who came the close to finding me out? I thought you knew, when you asked me about my archives, and your gift as a young'un. Nomad knew me right away-syntax does always tell. I only told Theia, during her plight in Omaha. No one else knew.

Otherwise, it was a unique experience, because people really talked to Santa as Santa, and I thought it was a special privalege to be him for that special moment of FG time.

*of course, the Grinch wanted clues all the time who he was-didn't think I would change the time settings, did you Far?*:wah:

I learned through the last year to do things I never thought I would do in my life.

I would learn how to bring an invalid back to health.

I would learn how to take over the finances again, and not be dependant on someone who cannot help me anymore. (it's not his fault he is sick)

I never thought I could work 3 jobs at once, and live through it.

I never thought I could organize all the music for the next year, and except for Christmas 2006-it is done.

Because God gave me the stregth to do it.

I have a handful of stones my mother-in-law picked up when she visited this in her travels. They were earmarked for another, but I wanted them and so they became mine.
