How did you come by your name?

Why did your parents pick your particular name for you? Did they name you after someone? Or did they just 'like' the name?

not named after anyone, originally I was to be named Leslie till I showed up then my father blurted out Melanie and it stuck. Funny thing... my brothers first name is .... Leslie. He goes by his middle name hehehehe rarelyl reveals his first name and if asked he will say it is Les.

My mother apparently used to read a weekly comic as a child and her favourite story was about a girl who lived on a desert island. I'd love to read that comic as she named me after the girl! :-2

My name is Susie.

When my mother was pregnant, my father and grandfather would take her for a nightly walk for exercise. Every pretty girl on the street that walked by, my grandpa would whistle and say "Hey there Susie" and laugh, and my father would laugh with him. My mother fixed them both, and told them when I was born, I would be Susie, so she would know who they were whistling at.

They never whistled at another girl again, but me.

My name Beryl, it was my dads Sister in laws name..

My sister was named Margaret after my mum and my brother Ian was named another of my dads relatives.

I tried hard to NOT name my kids after any family members to avoid problems....my mother in law was called Dorothy Phoebe....bless her. her sister was called Jessichaia ...no idea where that came from.

My name came from the movie "Dr. Zhivago". It was the movie my parents went to see on their first date.

I'm named after my uncle. His middle name is Sherrilyn. That was supposed to be my name, but apparantly the drugs my mom was on made her loopy so I ended up just Sheryl.

My father named me after seeing the movie Laura with Jeanne Tierney. He went to the movie alone. Mom stayed home pregnant snuggled under a blanket. He ran home from the movie ,and told her " Im in love with this name."

My first name continued the family tradition on my fathers side.. I was named after my father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. My middle name was selected because it fit in... and is biblical..

My younger brother was the first grandson... or great grandson for that matter, that was not named after my father or grandfather in anyway...

okay.. got you confused..

my first name is joseph... my father and grandfather are named joseph... and my great grandfather's middle name was joseph. All of my maternal uncles and cousins were named Joseph or Thomas... my brother was the first grandson.. that did not have Joseph or Thomas in his name...

My first name is so unusual that I have only meet one other person with the name. I'm not sure where my mom got it or why she gave me the name...:-3 I have wanted to change it all my life, would have been happy with a normal name like Linda..!! ;) Oh and all my mother knew about the name is that it is FRENCH..
