I'd love to hear what others think about this... something seems not

quite right about it to me...

Quote: "Not reporting the discharge of a department firearm is a serious violation of department policy, leading us to conclude that termination is the appropriate action in this case," Clader said.

I listened to this on the news this morning. The above rule stands here too. Also on the news they said alligators are protected and the officers involved had no right shooting one. I think it all boils down to department policy.

What gets me though is we really don't know the why's and wherefore's of

the whole thing. Was the alligator impeding evacuations? What was going

on? If these are officers in good standing, maybe they could have been

let off with a reprimand or something. It doesn't seem like it is something

they would normally do in their home state!!

If they were just out "plinking" for the heck of it... maybe.

I think the main issue is that their superiors felt they didn't follow protocal. They fired their weapon without doing the paperwork. I'm sure there was a good reason why they chose to shoot the alligator. It may be possible that State is making an issue out of it and CHP is getting the squeeze put on them? Only speculating here.....

On the news footage I saw on TV, they showed Officers standing in a boat with their weapons drawn as the boat glided through the water.

i read somewhere the officers claim the gator went after them. which is enough reason to shoot. nuisance gators are killed down here. as far as the protocol of reporting the firing of one's weapon, i think the extreme circumstances were such that it could have been overlooked. if it turns out they did not feel in danger, and were having some fun, then they should be suspended/fired. because of breaking LA law.

Every year I have to take an eight hour class to keep my drivers license and job(In compliance with Department of Transportation) The Training Department generally have speakers from the different departments.......blah, blah,blah......anyways we contract with the Sheriff department for our security now, (Metro Bus) We had a speaker touching on "Homeland Security" and it was drummed into our heads that in time of "Emergency" we are to report or call for instructions....we took an oath....(I remember signing this when I hired on but I don't remember being swore in with my hand up and everything, that was 27 years ago though)

OK, Our Sheriff department was ready to help at the flood in LA and was told, " great but don't bring your weopons"......I'm sure this was told to all the other Law enforcement agencies....it had to do a lot with insurance and other things (I Guess)they needed to get clearance from each state they would pass through. Our Sheriff said forget that, strings were pulled and they went (with weapons)

and because of this disaster things have been changed with all the states.........I Imagine CHP is pissed and are making an example. (they have had a few scandals)
Someone asked me why I swear so much. I said, "Just becuss.":)
