History of the F Word
Without having opened the link, I can tell you that the "F" word is an acronym:
Fornication
Under
Consent of the
King
Bullet taught me that! Who knew?!

"Fornication Under Consent of the King" was supposedly placed on signs above houses in medieval England during times of population control and was special permission given to knights, by their king, when a knight wished to have sex with a woman.
None of these acronyms were ever heard before the 1960s, according to the authoritative lexicographical work, The F-Word, and so are backronyms. In any event, the word "****" has been in use for too long for some of these supposed origins to be possible. It should also be noted that acronyms themselves were rare prior to the 20th century.

I can't believe how widespread the whole Fornication-Under-Consent-of-the-King thing has become. Goes to show you that people will believe just about anything they're told about the middle ages as long as it sounds weird and backwards enough, I guess.
I'm pretty sure the Dutch verb "fokken" which means "to breed" is the f-word's most direct ancestor.
