the brown recluse is the most dangerous of spiders, they also live here in North America. They are smallish non discript brown spiders that can kill ya.
More dangerous than the spiders we think we should fear, tarantulas, and scorpions and black widows.

Scared of Spiders?
I know first hand what it's like to get bit by a spider. I have, not once, but twice. The first time, I suspect I was sitting in my computer chair when I got bit on the butt. The second time, I was in bed sleeping and got bit on the stomach. It causes extreme chills, where you cannot get warm no matter how many blankets, I couldn't stay awake if my life depended on it. The bites do look gross and nasty. They start out like a boil, then redness spreads around them, and then BAM they are huge and gross. The skin eats away. The one on my stomach you could have stood a dime up in it and lost it.

Wow Peg, that sounds nasty! How long did it take you to recover? :-3
I like spiders. They are so interesting to watch, especially when they catch their prey.

With the first bite, I refused to let them admit me to the hospital. The second bite, I was too sick to refuse. I let them do an antibiotic drip on me for 24 hours and then begged to go home. I didn't want to miss work when I needed to school shop for the kids. The bites take weeks to heal. As far as chills, tiredness, etc. It lasts about 2 days if you get on antibiotics that are strong enough and soon enough. I have a nasty scar on my stomach from the second bite.
Scared of Spiders?
I'm really curious. What made you look up the bite of a brown recluse in the first place?

OMG these are Gross! I Hate Spiders!
I hoover them up with my Dyson. It sucks all their legs off and you're left with a 'raisin' in your hoover.
(Unless they're in the bath...in which case I wash 'em down the plughole!
And stick the plug in to stop 'em coming back!

My g/f got bit by a brown recluse when we were at university... she was wearing a mini skirt when she was down in my basement and it bit her on her leg... I didn't see it, but I instantly thought that's what it might be by the way her left leg swelled up... they prefer dark, moist places.
Last summer, I ended up with an immense bird spider in my conservatory... that was kinda' surprising... now I keep the doors shut more often. I don't believe there are any more in there, but... you never know and they'd be right at home if they were. :p

The only good spider is a dead one..!!
I hate spiders big time. Peg your lucky you can't mess around with spider bites they are really dangerous.. !!
I saw way to many of these in New Zealand when we were caving.. !! scared to you know what out of me every time..!! :-3 Lovely little things they eat WETA'S.. which are just as scarry looking as the spider. (Weta)
(Spider)
What do they look like?
New Zealand's largest spider in terms of leg span, which can be up to fifteen centimetres. These spiders are mottled light brown in colour with very long legs. The first two pairs of legs each bear a very long claw.
Where are they found?
Certain caves in the Nelson and Buller regions.
What are their habits?
Not only is Spelungula cavernicola one of New Zealand's largest spiders, but due to its rarity and restricted habitat it is also our only legally protected species of spider.
These spiders are hunters and are known to feed on cave wētā (Gymnoplectron sp.). Once the spider has located its prey, it drops on top of it. The spider remains secured to the wall via a drag line, and uses this to carry its prey away. With its feet on the ground, the wētā is unable to jump away to safety.
Spelungula cavernicola produces large, almost spherical, egg sacs that are suspended from cave ceilings on a thread.
Dangerous spiders found at school
Feb. 25, 2006 at 11:07PM
A Texas elementary school has been invaded by brown recluse spiders, a species that inflicts a sometimes deadly bite.
Staff members at the Highland Forest Elementary School in San Antonio first spotted the spiders this week, the San Antonio Express News reported. Children were moved out of classrooms where the spiders were seen, to the cafeteria or library.
The brown recluse bite typically leaves its victims with a red mark that can, if enough venom was injected, turn into a necrotic wound. Molly Keck, a Texas Cooperative Extension entomologist, told the newspaper about 1 percent of bites are fatal.
But the spider is also shy. Experts say most bites occur when the spider hides in clothes or, occasionally, when someone rolls over on the spider in bed.

Oops... I was thinking about the basement with that last mention, Snooze... perhaps I should've said "dank" instead of moist?
...and as I recall, actually she wasn't certain she even got bit in the basement... it's possible she could've rolled over it in bed... personally, I believe I'd know if I were bit by a spider, but... I've never been bit by one, so... I've always been under the impression that venomous spiders bite rather hard.

Well I hate creepy crawlies, so you won't catch me going near any of them, including spiders.
My real pet hate though are wasps and bees. Agh if you stuck one of those near me then I'd probably break the 100 metre world record in no time at all. :wah:

I like to watch spiders in action. In the summer, I like to sit out on the porch and watch the bugs get caught in spiderwebs. The spiders are quick about dropping down and wrapping the bugs like little mummys.

Spidees separate the men from the boys.. grin. Like - when there's a big, narsty, hairy, bad-attitoooded eight legged critter bailing up a household - who goes to the rescue????????????????????? The menfolk are all pale and quaking and possibly soiling their underwear. It's the gals who go into battle and clobber the bugger - every time!
On that subject - I recall recently hearing frantic hollering from an office containing four hefty medical research PhD students (all male). A wasp had flown in the open window and was checking them out with malice aforethought !!!! Give you one guess who removed the invader.......
