Beware of fraudsters exploiting the Asian tsunami disaster for their own means. In the wake of the disaster on Boxing Day, internet traffic to charity websites leapt more than five-fold, in particular on the website of the UK's Disaster Emergency Committee which co-ordinates the various appeals in the UK.

Now fraudsters are targeting the generosity of people who want to help, the UK Police and the FBI have warned. Fake emails claiming to be for relief charities are doing the rounds and there have also been a spate of emails offering to find victims for free or requesting that money be deposited in overseas accounts.
