We're in a big city again, but we'll be shooting for a house in one of the smaller towns near here, so we can live in the country but be close to the city!:)
We had originally moved to a small town about an hour north of here and I loved it, no traffic, no major crime, everybody knowing each other, etc. but it didn't work for out for us unfortunately! :-1 But we still pop up there for a visit every couple of months!

I have been all over this world of ours, and every time I come back I say why the heck did I leave a beautiful city for sure but to damn many people for this natives liking..!!

My town is about 2000 people. One main street that has 2 convience stores, 2 banks, 2 hairdressers, 1 florist, 3 mom & pop restraunts, Dairy Queen. We have one elementry/middle school and one highschool.
The streets running north to south in our town go from J through R. The ones running east to west are 1 through 12.

I think it's a Texas thing, the town can have a population of 1 dog and 3 cats and there still would be a Dairy Queen. :wah:

That is so true! I always noticed that back when we were on the road!
Just like it seems that every town, no matter how small or how far in the boonies, there's always a chinese restaurant!

Texas is a big state, I haven't got to see it all yet. I would venture a guess that his saloon was either in Dallas or Austin. Am I right?

Let's see if I can describe our town. Population of 676. No Main Street. Two railroad crossings. No stop lights - except when you get on the highway. The biggest event in the last 15 years was when the streets in town were paved.
My little town really exists as a stopping point for those heading up into Sandpoint or down to Coeur d'Alene. Therefore, the biggest commercial concern is the Texaco Station.
We do have a little library, a small lumber mill, a post office, a few tiny businesses, and an elementary school.
Coming originally from the Bay Area, CA - our town is the perfect size.

Sorry...this is cheating a bit......not a bad place to live and very good road links and places of interest not too far away.
.....actually, very much a typical english small town but the pictures i've posted are how i like to think of my town...
Lancing is a village and civil parish in the Adur District of West Sussex, England, on the western edge of the Adur Valley. It is on the coastal plain between Sompting to the west, Shoreham-by-Sea to the east and the parish of Coombes to the north. It is sometimes credited as being the largest village in England, covering an area of 3.9 miles² (892.4ha).
It is a mix of coastal urban dwelling and rural chalk downland landscape. The oldest non-religious buildings date to around 1500 CE. The 2002 population was around 19,000.
The town was a popular seaside resort in the mid-19th century, gaining favour from the gentry of the time for its secluded atmosphere. Lancing today no longer has a notable tourist trade although there are a number of small guest houses, most of them on the coast road.
There is a shingle beach with good stretches of clean sand at low water. South of the A259 coast road is Widewater, an internationally rare brackish (slightly saline) lagoon. Immediately north of the developed area is Lancing Ring, a Nature Reserve, part of the designated Sussex Downland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). To the north of that is farmed agricultural downland connected to Lancing College Farm. On its eastern side is Shoreham Airport, the world's oldest continually-operational airport which also served as an RAF base during World War II.
Much of the land now covered with housing was formerly taken by a number of family-run market gardening businesses growing fruit or flowers for the Brighton Market or Covent Garden in London. Sparks Nursery was growing fruit such as tomatoes and Young's produced Carnations. Chrysanthemums were grown by Frank Lisher on his land south of The Finches, the house he built. The Nash family were fruit growers, producing grapes under huge glass cloches that could be rolled into place on a rail track. 'Mr Marshall's Nursery' was also notable.
Lancing railway station opened with what is now known as the West Coastway Line on 24 November 1845. Between 1908-1912 the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway developed its railway carriage works in the area that is now the Churchill industrial estate at the western edge of town. The railway works were closed 1964-5.
