A rose by any other name...

Post by valerie »

Well yesterday I was lucky enough to pick a beautiful long-stemmed rose

colored rose from a bush in my garden... in January, no less!! I usually

prune back all my rose bushes the end of this month so that was pretty

amazing... and I have NO clue why!!

Valerie where do you live? I live in So calif and usually have all mine pruned back before Jan but we got so much rain the last few months my rosesgrew so big and bloomed so much I didn't have the heart to trim them-my climber rose had 40 blossoms on it and about 20 more to come out when a big storm with high winds tore the trellis and bush down-so finished cutting it back today. My other roses had more blooms than they did in summer-yellow one had about 15 blooms coming out every day-I have about 20 roses-they were all incredible-kept telling family back east how wierd but great it was to come home Xmas nite and smell roses in bloom in the garden-could smell them from 2 houses down. Now the rain is gone-going partly dorment and partly getting new shoots-so trying to trim back.

Hey sorry I just saw this!! I live in SF Bay Area. We've had really frosty

nights a lot of nights but then stretches of warm days. This week is

supposed to be rainy all week.

Finally did get the roses cut back, and now they have leaf sprouts on

them but they should be okay.

Also have a trellis out back that I had scarlet runner beans on and

believe it or not, most all of the vines are dead dead dead, and I did

pull most off, but there is a little section on the bottom that has

wintered over with nice green leaves! Again, with a lot of frosty

nihgts! I don't get it!
