All work no play.........

I had last Sunday off (March 12) and now I'm full on at work . I feel well stressed already and this is only the first 7-day week. My next day off will be Good Friday (April 14)

Yeah..that will be a VERY Good Friday after 32 consecutive days at work.

Trouble is I'm waking around 4a.m. and switching to work mode in my head.

Today I sat designing on a computer for 7 hours with one 2 minute run out to the toilet as the only respite.

I spent about 5mins logged into FG (still on a computer though).

I've got a headache now, so tomorrow I'll take some breaks like your supposed to. It is the law after all.

Drawing and designing in 3D on a computer is far more demanding than usual computer work.

I told my boss who wanted me to work late in the week, that after a full day staring at the screen, I've usually got a headache, which is true.

He got his air violin out.

OK ..got it off my chest now, so I'll stop bleating and go and do something manly.....like my Moms shopping

Hi Unc,

Too much pooter time gives me a headache too! Try putting a protective shaded screen over your monitor that cuts the 'glare' as thats what gives you the headache!

Although not eating and drinking doesn't help, silly sausage! :-5

Or, if you wear glasses, next time you buy a pair get them to put shaded lenses in! It really helps stop those blinding headaches!

Here's something that might make you feel better, Unc: My "personal

worst" was 39 days in a row, one day off (Fourth of July so I went to

the company picnic) and then worked the next 15 days until a break.

These were WAY more than 8 hour days, too, 10/12/14 hours most all

of 'em.

Does that take some of the barbs off that wire?

I once had 25th and 26th December off, and then no more time off until 3rd week in February and that included New Years day, so about 8 weeks I guess.

The hours from time to time are a bit dodgy.

We did a big job years ago that nearly mashed my head up. I did three 80 hour weeks, followed by two 90 hour weeks and finished off with a 103 hour week ( and I'm not even a Junior Doctor)

I've done 30 hour shifts in the past, then ended up sleeping in flight cases.

I once worked all Saturday, then on the night drove down to London to start work at the Royal Albert Hall at midnight working through until 8 a.m. I then drove back to the office in Birmingham and started drawing some extra bits and pieces. I finally got home mid afternoon totally knackered.

Another time I went to work and came home 4 days later. Did a couple of all-day & all-nighters at the London Arena and was so tired, I remember staggering round the building like I was drunk. My mate still likes to tell the tale of watching me drop to my knees, then lie face down on the concrete floor where I lay motionless for a couple of hours before getting up and doing it all over again. Now that I'm older it's more of an effort and I'm never going to put myself and others at risk again by driving back from some rehearsals totally exhausted. It's only rock'n'roll for crying out loud!

When the end of a job is looming, and the panic of a groundrush sets in, we do get fed in order to keep us there. The usual array of health-food can be counted on such as pizza, curry, fish and chips etc. Yeah....not a lentil in sight.

This only occurs when there is an expectancy to work right through the night . There are 2 main casualties in this approach. Health & safety and quality.

I can remember drawing a set quite a few years back in the days before designing on computer, when all the work was done on a drawing board, and after working all day, I was expected to carry on drawing through the night.

Doing trigonometry on my little calculator at 4 in the morning was the most fun I've ever had without smiling. I also remember on that particular job, being told that if I made a mistake, I'd be fired.

No pressure there then!

Being salaried, I am expected to work overtime for no extra financial gain. However, for the first time ever, as we're in a bit of a hole, enticement has occurred. These funds will be allocated to either my holiday in Spain at Easter or round-the-clock care in a mental institution of my choice. Watch this space

There was a second part to this job which has made life rather busy and stressful of late. The panic is over as it's all systems go for the big show in The City of Manchester Stadium tonight. Thankfully I wont have to sit through it again.

Instead I fully intend to appreciate my first day off for 3 weeks.

I read this thread from the start and felt very sad. Firstly for you Uncle K. Nobody should work like that. It's just not worth it. And secondly for the loss of FG friends whose postings I used to enjoy.

God Kram ! There are children dying from flea bites in Tanzania. Im sure those children would love to work 32 hrs straight on a computer while their boss made pretend music at them. Im also sure they would love to go to the bathroom somewhere besides out in the dirt with grandma and the chickens. Lets get our priorities straight here my friend. :rolleyes:

No Bunny and I've enjoyed my day off. I've extended a fence, mowed the lawn, weeded, cleaned my shower, done my Moms shopping, had my eyes tested, gone to my Moms, then come home with Laura ready for Fathers day tomorrow. My mate who I work with is in Spain so its gonna be busy on Monday which is why I'm determined to enjoy tomorrow
