My first cell phone...

Like Wavy Gravy said: "These ARE the good ol' days"!!

Twenty years ago, I got my first "cell" phone... we called them "car" phones

in those days. Yup, had my brand spankin' new 1986 Honda Accord LX,

4 door, 5 speed... "Bluebelle" now THERE was a car... but I digress. :o

To get that first phone, I had a representative come over to the house,

fill out all the paperwork, and give me an appt. in SAN FRANCISCO (about

a half hour away) to get it installed. It cost me $1300 to get that first

car phone. There was no place closer to get them installed, either. And

my rate was 90 cents a minute for peak hours, which were business hours

Mon. thru Fri. and then dropped to 20 cents a minute nights and weekends!

My, how times have changed!!

Cellphones are a great saftey feature to have on you, especially for women in an emergency. The new one have GPS on them so they can locate you through your phone if something happens.. They are a necessary evil in todays world..!!

Carla is right. i absolutely do believe in cell phones for women who often travel alone. worth every penny if not used for idle chit-chat. it can save a woman in an emergency.
