Hi Baby! glad you survived today, very stressful I am sure. What is involved with a working interview?
Get me OUTTA the bar!!!!!
Hi Cass! Thanks for the good wishes! And it actually wasn't too stressful, surprisingly.
When the office manager was going over my resume with me, she pointed out that I have experience doing dental procedures, and that none of her current techs did. When she was looking at the schedule for what day to have the interview, she picked a day that had 2 dental appointments. I'm HOPING she'll put me on those to get a feel for how comfortable I am doing this. Otherwise, I'll be doing initial exams, getting familiar with their lab, their computer system, x-ray equipment, etc. Turns out, she is looking for a head technician, which could be HUGE for me. I'm so excited I can barely sit still. The time is going to drag till Wednesday. I probably won't sleep a wink! :yh_nailbi

I am SOOOO sorry Captain! I forgot about your fear of dentists. I don't much like being in "the chair" myself. Funny thing, though, doing this procedure doesn't bother me in the least.
And Cassie, thanks for being excited with me! First thing when I get home Wed. I'll jump on here and let you all know how it went. But keep sending the positive vibes, gang! The job's not a lock yet. YET. Thanks again for everyone's support! It means more than you know. :yh_peace

What do you like about the place? What might be a drawback? Talk, talk...it'll help ease the stress (I think!).

I like that it's a small practice. One doctor only. The practice is limited to only dogs and cats. No birds, reptiles, ferrets etc...I never much liked working with exotics, so that's cool too. A potential drawback could be that the office manager is looking for someone to come in and "take charge" to use her words. She's looking for a head technician. I don't want to waltz in and start stepping on toes of the girls who have been there a while, but none of them (apparently) have the experience that I do. It could be a fine line to walk at first, but that's one of the things that make it so challenging. How to show my experience, and not look like a know-it-all? It's going to be interesting, to say the least.

Very cool! Being a smaller practice would mean you'll get to know the customers and the pets over time?
Sounds like you'll definitely be in your comfort zone with no exotic pets. That's great for you - it means you'll excel. And knowing you, you won't be happy with your performance unless you do excel.
Getting personal, and please ignore it if you'd rather...how will this affect your time with your fiance? Will you be working different shifts?

Not look like a know-it-all...Wish I could help on that, but I tend to come off like I know everything, even though I know damn well I only know most everything.
I tried to learn a lot about not stepping on toes at a new job/position since it was a required course. I didn't do very well on it, though. Thing is, if you are hired to be a take-charge person, then that's what you should do. If the other girls were qualified for the position or wanted the position, then they'd already have it. That attitude could account for why I didn't do well in the course. LOL
Only advice I have on that is to ask them for their input, so they know you respect their experience and thoughts. Just listen to them. If you make a different decision, then let them know why. Get them excited about what you're doing. I think it's called Management aka Manipulation. (wicked grin)
We have a lot of new people at my job right now. Nothing annoys me more than hearing them praise their last place of employment, how much better things were done over there. I always want to say, "Go back, then!" ... but of course, I just smile and nod.
I also don't like radical changes being made without consulting those of us who know the company, our systems, and the various laws/regulations. So asking your soon-to-be coworkers for their input will help alleviate a lot of potential problems.
Have you managed or been the take-charge person before?

Now, see? I knew I could count on you AK, to focus my energies! First, yes, it will definitely be opposite schedules for my fiance and I. I'm used to staying up late and waiting for him, (he works afternoons) and I won't be able to do that now. But! I won't be working Sundays, and there is one day during the week the clinic isn't open. So the night before that I'll be able to stay up and we'll be able to go out Saturdays. That was one of the first things we talked about, and both of us know that I'll be much happier back in this field, so that can only be good for the relationship. It is going to be very strange not to see him during the day, though.
I am going to take your advice on dealing with the other girls. I was a general manager for a restaurant for a couple of years, which meant I hired and fired a bunch of waitresses. So this is going to be a bit different, though not totally unfamiliar. I just can't wait to get my feet wet! I'm bouncing around my house like a kid on Christmas Eve! Just waiting for Wednesday... :yh_wait
Thank you so much for all the input, AK. It sure did help release some tension.
And just a note of warning for everyone: When you get sick of hearing all my crazy stories about work, TELL ME! I tend to get a little carried away!

BabyRider, it sounds like you've thought everything out. Some adjustment, true, but you're focusing on the positives. I'll add my own yee-haw...of course mine is in a proper drawl (hair toss).
I'm so excited for you! Please, talk about work. It gives me an excuse to do the same. :p

Great news, congratulations-things will go your way! As far as walking the fine line, I have found that a diplomatic way you can approach things is in the way you choose & use your words. Like when you know a better or the correct way, you could say something like "how about if we tried this", or "maybe this might work". Actually showing your knowledge, but in a discreate way. And if that does'nt work then it's your call. If the office manager wants you to "take charge", well then "take charge". "Knowledge is power", and if the other girls see you have the knowledge, they will follow your lead. Good luck & best wishes!

You'll understand everybody. Have a good time. Realize that we are just ordinary folk of the Canadian persuasion. Think about how long it will be before you are able to get back and maybe visit the folks down south too.
If anything we will understand you because we get a whole lot of Coronation Street thrown into the mix. If you go to Quebec and don't speak French you will discover that when they hear your accent and your accent when you are trying to find out where the bathroom is, they will, as a rule, lapse into English because they give credit to people that try to speak to them in French.
You'll have a ball.

Hey, everyone! All the support means so much to me, you really have no idea..You guys are great! The interview went very well. I was there for about 3 hours, dealt with the meanest cat I've ever seen, a 3.6 pound yorkie that tried to rip my finger off, a HUGE mutt named "George" who immediately goes defensive as soon as you separate him from his owners...various other things. Kinda weird, the very first dog I got my hands on today was a euthanasia. How's that for prophetic? Worried me a bit...Silly superstitions, I know. I got to work a bit with the Dr., who is very nice. Easy-going, laid back. Not your typical "I'm-a-doctor-tremble-before-my-wisdom-and-power" type. They are doing a few more interviews, so it's a waiting game again. :yh_sigh
I'm still pretty confident that I did well and made an impression. Please keep the positive thoughts coming! I should know something Monday. :yh_wait

Yes, I had to put a dog down today. And yes, kensloft, the dog needed to be put down. He was in renal failure and the owners had gone to every length to save him. He was emaciated and in a lot of pain. Putting down a dog in that condition is not a sad thing for me.

Hi Baby... what an interview!!

Didn't think that there could be anything other than that. I know that you aren't planning on going to work in a killing factory. Did it come across that wimpy or judgemental? Didn't mean it that way.

BR, glad it went well and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
That may have been the meanest cat you have ever seen, but just be thankful
you've never come across my husband's cat. I refer to her as "Devil :yh_devil
Bitch Kitty From Hell"! I asked our vet techs one time if they have a way of
remembering an awful kitty (was a tech I'd known for a long time, so I felt
comfortable) and she said "Yeah, Val, we do" and showed me Gracie's chart
with a big red flag sticking out of it!! This kitty we always say, get your chain
mail out. She has to be box sedated to do ANYTHING. Naturally it costs more!
Was a surprise to me, my previous experience with kitties was ones who keel
over purring on the exam table!! Oh well!!

Thanks for the good thoughts! Funny, we had to tank down the cat, too! He is mean anyway, but his problem was constipation, so you can just imagine how much more ornery that made him!! :yh_rotfl
Kensloft...I didn't think you sounded wimpy or judgemental at all! :yh_bigsmi

Oh? Do I detect someone else that has picked up on the incredible mirth that Der Wulfe creates in people's minds and hearts? Sometimes before I open his mail I have to sit closer to the floor. Save on the aches and bruises. I am ever thankfull that the only hurt in the ribs is from the muscles being over-extended for a long while because you catch his humour. Subtle like a sledge hammer. Don't need to take his temperature. It'll be hot. Do you have to pay if you break the thermometers? He could cost a fortune. :-5

Mrs. DerWulf might have something to say about that...but whether it's "Heck no!!" or "here's the scalpel" is anyone's guess... :wah:
Me? Pad my post count?

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
