Days when we are not diplomatic and thoughtful and sometimes we cross the line, bloody lose the plot entirely and rightly get walloped by our mates. And that's fine. We get up, apologise, get hugged and get on with life.

But BR is talking about ongoing harrassment which is different. I've never investigated the 'ignore' facility (never used it in any fourm) but does that automatically switch off pm's from the ignored person?

You're right - there's a massive difference between a public attack where you air your disagreement and private hate mail.

If you go too far publicly you apologise, if someone goes to far in attacking you then call them an idiot, if it get too vicious then the admin will step in, but private mail is another kettle of kippers - if it's not fit to be said in public then it shouldn't be said.

I've never recieved a hateful PM. But I would just ignore if I did. Some people need to buy larger panties, and quit letting their old ones get in bunch so easily.

Not referring to anyone in FG bout the panty comment, xcept maybe Wolverine. :wah:

I have never received a hateful Pm. I have never sent a Hateful PM. I get all excited when I see Ive been PMd because they have always been such nice messages. To send a nasty or threatening PM borderlines on crime. It is a sneaky, disrespectful, cowardly thing to do, because to be able to PM is a priveledge. To me... its sort of like having acess to someones home. And if you wear one face here publicly and another threatening or cruel face privately.... Than that persons whole personality is a sham. Now e mailing.. thats like an invitation to " Get to know me" If I give my e mail address... Ive made a new friend. If Ive been given one.... its like a gift saying " I feel I can trust you. I feel very, very, sorry for those who get involved in wars here. I dont want to know them here.... and I couldnt imagine spending 5 minutes with them in real life. Like Aussie Pam says... There are all kinds of personalities here. To share parts of your life.. or private feelings or thoughts.. is a risk. Some of us are willing to take the risk. We blow off the dust.. and discover some real gems.

As usual!

What a great and really humorous turn this thread took while I was at work!! Some serious answers and the rest of you being your usual goofy selves. Makes for some good reading.

Since no one asked and I want to tell you anyway, I very rarely report stuff. Spam, yes. Continual, unmitigated, relentless trolling and bashing, yes. But I've gotten some pretty hard-core PM's that I don't bother to report. It's much more enjoyable and therapeutic to out-wit the person trying to rile me up. Usually though, it's all too easy. :yh_rotfl

BabyRider wrote: So, do you get hateful PM's from the ones who just don't see eye-to-eye with you? If you do, what do you do? Respond? Ignore? Report?

I know my views and opinions are not the most popular around here, but I do have true friends here who appreciate honesty and straight forwardness. Being who and what I am and not lying or trying to cover it up has stirred up some resentments in the past, and I'm sure will do so again in the future. SO, when YOUR opinion doesn't jive with someone else's and they PM you with all sorts of nasty names and comments, what is your reaction?

Hateful PM's as others have already have said, are a violation of one's privacy so to speak. Whenever someone calls a Spade a Spade as they see it, that fact alone will sometimes ruffle the feathers of others, as they see it.

IMO the "smoothing" out of those ruffled feathers S/B done in the open public forum, as where it started. "Hatefull PM's" S/B responded to by saying, Hatefull PM's don't deserve the respect of a reply, & it will not be discussed any further. (So far up to the present, I have not received any unpleasant PM's. Although once, I have to admit, did receive a "warning" from Admin)

guess it all boils down to how you want to handle someone or anyone who you dislike, again it is all about choices, we can make it a big deal, or we can just walk away. I dunno but one of the not so lovely PM's I received way long ago was from someone I really wanted to dislike permanantly. But over the months of being here and reading that persons posts and getting to know them better I am glad I got past that and I co-exist along side them and it's nicer to fogive and more on than hold a grudge.

Im glad you like me now, too. Just kidding. At least I dont think it was me. Im not one to send hateful PM's to anyone.

Anyway, do you guys think there is a difference bewteen someone who screams their opinion at you in a not-so-tactful way and someone who just flat out calls you very nasty names (personal attacks)? Are both incidences bannable in the same way?

I think anything hurtfully typed over and over even after warnings is bannable. I see in here we are allowed to speak our differences and at times some thing resembling Hate comes in as well. I think for the most part we are all grown up enough to manage the scraps. If it gets out of control admin steps in and I think they do a bang up job with warnings and give enough and then decide to ban. As for someone who spouts blatant and obvious hate in any way should not be allowed to play here. Screaming opinions to me would seem much less offensive than nasty personal attacks. An opinion is one persons thoughts. But to actually attack someone in an obvious and hurtful manner should not be tolerated.

Grow flowers not Hate.
