OK, guys, I have stayed out of this thread just to see what was going to happen. But nothing's happened. Jives has not been here to refute any of the claims made by the people from the Gin Blossoms forum.
The odd thing to me about all this is, Jives started the thread saying, "None of you will believe this, and I don't really care," which to me, if a person is being honest, there is no need to point out that you're being honest.
People are calling out the GB fans and saying it's a "witch hunt" and they are "bashing" etc., etc., when all I see is a few people who seem to know what they are talking about and are in fact in touch with the band itself, trying to shed some fact on the subject.
Further, if I were to go to the site myself to post what I thought, I would not hide behind a false name or remain hidden from those here, but I can fully understand why someone else would. Me, I don't care if people know I disagree with them, others here do not like confrontations and prefer to state their views anonymously. I don't call that cowardly, I call it keeping the peace here.

maybe he's busy. Everyone of course will have their own opinion. Me!? I wait for all the parties to show and give testimony before judging. 
Once upon a time, long ago, on a forum far away, I had someone do this to me... come into MY arena and bad mouth me and tell stories and had 80% of my friends freaked out that I was a bald faced liar... there were very many not-niceties from PMs, to hate mail... and it all came from someone who saw my profile, didn't know me from adam and decided to play with people... and the reason I wasn't there to defend myself... I fractured my ankle and was AFK! All the friends except for one understood and returned... one was damaged beyond repair. Nothing I could do. And for that I hope my accuser rots in hell.

here is how threads are mis-read, and or mis-interpreted, as well it is a grand base for rumor starting. BR I am not pointing fingers at you, I am back at my usual stand, it is so easy to mis-understand anything on here and next thing you know we have raised Mass Hysteria.

Hi everyone. My name is Jon Ives. I was a good friend of Jesse, Phillip, Doug, and Robin back when they played at Long Wongs in Tempe. As a matter of fact I lived right across the street from them when they lived on 13th street.
I'd like to drop them a line, just to check in and say hi. (I still remember my last conversation with Doug, just before he passed away and I think of him often as I'm sure they all do)
Things have changed quite a bit for me. I used to be a cook for Long Wongs when Scott and Dave owned it, before Scott edged Dave out. (I hooked Robin up with free food a lot) and I hung out with a big funny Native American guy named Elmer Reeves.(He lived with Scott Guess and Clay kelly, if you're reading this Robin, remember him?)

So anyway, after Doug died, I moved back to New Mexico and went back to college. I got my teaching degree and went on to be the Math department head for Mesa View Middle School.

People have been known to embellish the truth about themselves in an effort to make themselves more likeable or whatever their particular insecurity is, it's not the end of the world! I'm hoping that's all it is if there is not a better explanation!
Jives, if you are the "you" that you present here at the garden then you need to know that we all love you for you and not what you have or have not done with your life! So get your butt back in the garden so we can laugh at...ahem...I mean with you!:D

Minks, my whole point is that there is no bashing going on anywhere. There's questions that have been raised as to the validity of Jives story and I for one would like to see the answers. Just out of pure curiosity's sake. I could not care less if Jives was in the GB pre-Doug, post-Doug, sometime in the ice age or in another dimension. It just doesn't matter all that much to me. But people here who are loyal to Jives *no matter what* are not looking at what the GB posters are trying to say with unveiled eyes. They can't see past their loyalty to Jives, all they see is someone saying, "He's not being truthful" and calling it an attack.
"Jives is my friend therefore he must not be a liar" is not a good enough reason. I'm having a hard time finding anything to refute what the posters from the other site are saying.
But, all in all, this story just doesn't matter all that much. If it's an embellished tale, well, it was a good one and I enjoyed reading it, Jives is a very creative writer and tells a good story. If it's the truth I'll be the first one to jump all over the GB group and give them a piece of my mind.

That is exactly why I decided to stop posting about this , Baby Rider. This is not a situation where any of us are attacking the guy--do you think if he thought WAS actually in the band at one time we would be doing this? A guy saw the post in your forum and thought it was odd--he went to us for answers at the official forum
All I did was point out facts:
1. Guy told two different sets of stories
2. Guy said he was in a band from 82-88 when that band didn't exist UNTIL the end of 87
3. There are no pictures, bios, articles, recordings ANYWHERE that supports his claim he was ever in the band.
4. The Gin Blossoms had a LONG road to success and those of us familiar with the band KNOW that story very well
5. The founder/guitarist and his self-described "best friend" HIMSELF said he never heard of Ives
6. The guys he said he played for that entire 6 year run--TWO of them weren't even original members
So, those are just a few of the FACTS that we have on our said. Your friend has this: "I was in the band from 82-88". If that is good enough for you, then there is NOTHING we can say to convince you otherwise. Points #1 and #2 are CANNOT be argued---it si RIGHT THERE in front of you! I invite Mr. Ives to answer all this points I just brought up. Either he is lying---or this is the most elaborate cover up in music history. Nobody at the GB KNOWS Ives (which is odd--considering he was supposedly in our fave band for 6 years) and we have NO axe to grind. I can't believe what I am reading from you. Ok, say Jesse really DIDN't e-mail me. The band still didn't exist when he was in it--and the guys he said were in the band weren't in the band at the time--and there is no EVIDENCE ANYWHERE to support his claim---and there is one HUGE chunk of info I have witheld and will spring upon him when he comes to back this up---if he does.
