Just one more reason why school uniforms should be worn if you ask me.

Why or Why are we making thing so difficult. I don't know what the answer is but I know when I went to school back in the dark ages of the 50's and 60's you had a dress code period and that was how you dressed no questions asked, if you broke the dress code you were suspended. Girls had to wear dresses or skirts and they had to be certain length period. Of course it was a simpler time and we would never think of doing what kids today do.:-5 :-5 For me its simple you go to school to learn..

Over here it's highly unusual for a High School (both public and private) NOT to have a dress code that requires students to wear a uniform. Primary School is a little different with public schools not always making a uniform mandatory but still optional.
I think it's a good thing on a number of levels. Primarily because it eliminates social typecasting that kids do based on clothing and looks ie. who has the "label" clothes and who can't afford it. Then you also avoid the issues like the ones stated in that article also.

As far as I know, ALL our schools insist on school uniform! Primary, Middle and Secondary Schools. You don't get to wear your own clothes until you go to college. They're even beginning to adapt uniforms so Muslim children can wear them too. (Although thats another kettle of fish entirely!)
As Amie says, it stops fights re clothes and designer labels. It also means you know which school a kid belongs to if they bunk off or cause problems outside of school. It also creates a sense of equality and community between pupils.
Yet I've never seen a TV show involving US kids where they ever wear uniform!

My mom always fought AGAINST school uniforms... they were way too
expensive for her budget. Maybe that was just back then, but I
would think affordability is an issue for some...
We mostly wore hand-me-downs (I had a friend who was much bigger
than I was) or thrift store, garage sale stuff. And not much of that.
