My great grandparents sailed from Bristol on 1848, but, unfortunately not on the "Great Britain". But Brunel's Bristol and the city were an interesting place to stay and explore.

My grandmothers family, the James family were Bristol folk too.

So, cheers mate!

Gordon. It's the sort of background where a diary or journal would be a wonderful thing to read. After several generations, you'd not necessarily know which branch of the family ended up with it, if one existed. Did you hear stories of how they started their new life after they arrived?

Hello Spot,

It's indeed unfortunate, but, because of a family disagreement about a will, none of the family information is available to me. My father did not even know of his grandparents names. The researching of information has involved a lot of following up guesses and dead ends.

I have published 50 copies of what research I have been able to find out. I have also had printed copies of my early years for family members.

One of our biggest failings concerning family is not not ask the right questions before it's too late to do so.

The tourist bus around Bristol was a great thing to do before a more detailed exploration.

Take care.

Gordon.

Have you considered putting what you've found so far onto a website? There's a lot of people who make serendipitous connections that way.

Hello Spot,

I'm afraid I don't have the technical knowledge about that. But given time and help, I'll try.

Almost all of my information concerns my Aussie connections and I have come to a dead end with that.

Regards.

Gordon.

Even if all you do is bang a thread up on here with all the details, it'll catch anyone Googling for the same names and places. You'll quite often find that they pass on what they know, if they find a connection, especially with the ones who were born in the UK. It's common not to post details of living relations but anything farther back is fair practice.
