If one of the longest threads in this forum can be based on a concept as slender as getting the last word - one based on the philosophical and no doubt zen-approved idea of a wooden reel of purple cotton complete with needle has endless possibilities.

Epistemologically, how do you prove it's really there at all when you look away to post a reply? And why purple? What's the nature of colour? What is reality anyway? Is there an existential element? A purple thread and a needle at the crossroads of life. Is the needle a phallic symbol? A very small one perhaps? But sharp. The hidden life of the needle in a haystack. The biblical eye of the needle that only the poor can pass through. Purple - the colour of feminist rage? Or effeminacy? Or royalty? Is Nomad really delivering a primal scream for help? Does he feel the fabric, um purple fabric, of life as he knows it has been pierced by some Sword of Damocles? Does this surreal technicolour dream mean he would really like to be a plum tree?

Or is he merely playing with us, like an entertainer juggling his balls? Toying with his audience and laughing at our serious faces, mocking our mirth?

You can always tell someone who scraped through first year Philosophy. Actually I did pretty well on the logic part, but got my knickers in all sorts of twists on the Theory of Knowledge.. er Epistemology. How we know what we know. And how we prove anything. Loads of fun there. And the classic example is the tree you turn your back on. How do you know it's still there? You think it is, you may believe very strongly it is.. but when you say you know it is... You then go through a whole series of examples of how each of our senses can be very effectively tricked. Just think of a mirage. Or plunging your hand from hot to cold and back.. till you don't know which is which. My eyes crossed at a very early stage of this and have really never fully uncrossed. So yeah!! let's head back to four letter words. Well five letter words... COFFEE !!! OOops that's got 6 ...

As a fellow wombat, OM, I won't have you casting nasturtiums at Snooze over her syllogisms. I understood her, I think, perfectly. Is there a cross eyed smiley????

With flowers on the one hand and a type of conclusive reasoning on the other, I don't stand a hope of not hanging myself on a thread of silk hanging from a cloud over my head.:lips:

Valerie - you have provided.. and I am henceforth forever in your debt. And what a visual, OpenMind!!! I'll carry that with me - as a talisman - as I tippy toe onto the thin ice of this new day.

Make sure it's a fluffly white cloud you're hanging on to, they're lighter than the grey ones. :D
