Some Thoughts on Boredom

I read and hear from many young people "I'm Bored", although it's not just young people that will say this, but adults as well. I have never understood that because I can never personally remember being bored. When someone says that, are they looking to someone else to entertain or amuse them? Do they really mean they are bored or do they mean to say they are lonely? There is a big difference of course. I really think many are lonely and not bored. A person would have to have a totally inactive mind to be bored because there is so much they can do themselves to alleviate true boredom.

Oh Lon................This is exactly what 50% of the students I subsitute teach for say to me. Now I have to tell you that out of that 50% only 1.7% of students complete the assignment. The rest of them get 0.0 for the day.

I have to tell you though that the helper teachers that come into the classroom have told me that there is a real language problem. In Bernalillo, there are 65% Native Americans, 30% Hispanic, 5 % White. The native Americans never had a written language before Kindergarden................go figure they don't speak English much less understand a written language.

If I get bored its because Im not stretching myself. You have to do.

Boredom seems quite common in youngsters (teenagers) who have a rather narrow view on life. If it is adults we are referring to, I think it's apathy and laziness. I'm never bored..there's too much to get out of life even if it's reading a book, making something, going for a walk, speaking to someone you love on the phone etc etc

I took 2 of my grandchildren on Easter Monday to an Open Air museum out in the country. Very old buildings have been moved from re-development areas and painstakingly rebuilt on this lovely site....anyway, the 9 yr old had the time of his life exploring but the 14 yr old told me several times that she was bored....however, when she went home she told her mum about the cool things we saw so i guess it wasn't a total waste of time.

I don't have time to be bored.. !!:D If I have a minutes downtime I sleep and wake up and start it all over again..
