Attention French Speakers!!

Post by DesignerGal »

I speak very little French and I just want to make sure I have this right and here is the reason I want to duoble check:

SOme years ago my Dad got a sailboat. Well, he wanted to name it "The Escape" in French, like a "relaxing escape" or a "vacation escape" and so he did, at least he thought he did. Not long after he had been sailing this boat around, our French cousin came to visit from Bretagne and wanted to go sailing. SO my Dad takes him on the boat and Amarie is laughing the entire time. My dad asks, "What is it? What is so funny?" Amarie informed him that his boat did say "The Escape" but it was more like the "flatulence" kind!!!!

Anyway, so here is my question:My husband just got a sailboat and he is having a hard time pronouncing "L'autre femme" (I dont, I picked out the name) so he wants to name it La Maitresse instead. Is this the correct word for a mistress as in the other woman who is not the wife?

Lol! It rhymes with "door or more"! :wah:

Merde! You're thinking of "baiseur", putain is what you'd call a woman, not a man. ;)

I believe putain is pucker with a "f" because we always joked that it was Vladimr Pucker, President of Russia. Are they 2 different words with slightly similar spelling?

sorry for the confusion. putain means whore, baiseur means "pucker with an "f" "

Vladimir Putin happens to have a name that is spelt and pronounced in a similar way to 'putain' but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have the same meaning! :wah:

In the same way that a bank probably wouldn't appreciate being called a wan* :yh_rotfl

Yep Spot.. everything else is rude... but

Haven't you noticed that the first vocabulary anyone remembers when learning a foreign language is the ummm... rude portion. I mean that's what happened when I was living in Spain... lol...

If I could offer an alternative? Ma Jolie. It's what Picasso called his mistress and it suits a boat too.

Mon petite shou-shou. (My little cabbage!)

It's my understanding it's a term of endearment.

valerie wrote: Mon petite shou-shou. (My little cabbage!)"Mon", indicating the male cabbage, requires "petit" - the e of petite is feminine. You sexed the cabbage correctly but you sibilated rather more than the required "chou-chou".

valerie wrote: It's my understanding it's a term of endearment.:DThe French are vegetable-fixated, it's well-known.

Au revoir, à bientot mon petit chou-chou.

No, scrub that, I can't sink so low. The only thing French is useful for on a forum is to bypass the swearing filter.
