I have never said that I hate downag. In fact I don't but I do feel sorry for him.
Am I somewhat angry? Damn right. When someone has to go to the bottom of the barrel to find a word like "liar" he clearly has a problem. None of us is perfect. However, I don't stoop to name calling. That is indeed childish.
I have never attacked him personally. He claims I have but does not know the difference between a disagreement over doctrine or dogma and a personal attack.
In reference to his comment on "a quote is a quote is a quote" do I really need to comment?

That his soul might be brought to enlightement - of how to converse with other people.
His beliefs are as they are, so be it. They don't match mine but that applies to most of humanity - no mere mortal has the last word on the word of God so people will disagree on the meaning of the message.

For someone who already knows that "there is no Google info about this, no proof either, i just have the feeling"... - don't you feel it a little unkind to respond to "do tell us about the FooFighter connection" with "Cant be bothered, look it up and learn something"? This is why we don't send someone out to chase down evidence that he's asked for - what I called finding a negative. Claiming something suggests you have existing knowledge, and that it's far easier in consequence for you to produce evidence if asked. It helps keep people honest. The cop-out "Cant be bothered, look it up and learn something", by contrast, cuts very little ice.

Bronwen mis-spoke herself, she meant Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark Dam, Sam, I had forgotten all about OMITD. Now that group had a sound all their own! I'm gonna go look for a 'Greatest Hits' album later today.
For anyone who doesn't already know, Crash Test Dummies and They Might Be Giants were rock groups that were more or less contemporary in their prime with Foo Fighters. I no longer follow rock music that closely, so I'm not sure which of those groups, if any, are still performing.
I do know that Death Cab for Cutie was named after a song by the Bonzo Dog Band, written by Neil Innes of Monty Python fame, and I know of at least three groups who named themselves after Captain Beefheart songs: Ant Man Bee, Ella Guru, and Dali's Car. Maybe someone knows of others.
Ennyhoo, the term 'Foo Fighter' comes from (1) an approximate phonetic pronunciation of the French word for fire (feu), and from the long-defunct 'Smoky Stover' comic strip, which involved firemen and catch-phrases like 'Where there's foo there's fire' and 'Notary Sojac' (an approximation of 'Merry Christmas' in Gaelic).

I am really quite amazed that none of you knows the origin of the term FOO FIGHTER.
During WW2 pilots for both the Germans and the Allies reported sighting what they affectionately termed FOO-FIGHTERS> UFOs of unknown origin. These craft were termed "fighters" because of their ability to change direction (manueverability). The Foo Fighters often shadowed a conventional aircraft and then would disappear at great speed.
Tesla invented a means to coduct electricity over great distances without the use of a physical means (wires). He also invented a "coil" which had miraculour properties (perhaps anti-gravity).
His insight into physics may also have been put to use in the Philadelphia Experiment in which a U>S>ship the "Eldridge" (Is this right or was it Rutlidge?) was caused to "disappear" while anchored in the Navy Yard at Philadelphia, with amazing consequences for some of the crew. The governments first trys at "stealth" technology.
I'm still not sure what any of this has to do with Tesla.

If you feel you can shed light on its origin then of course we'd be very interested to hear it. Why "FOO"?

"Nearly every assertion regarding the Philadelphia Experiment has been challenged as unfounded, highly speculative or as a hoax."
I have a machine on my desk which detects the transmission of electricity over great distances without the use of a physical means - it's called a radio.
Maybe you'd better clarify this "perhaps anti-gravity" coil too, while you're at it. You'd think if such things existed the Space program might be using it.

I'm too lazy to read back though. :)But I understand neither "feu" nor Smoky Stover's "foo" as having any association with these lights in the sky. Where's the link? I'd have thought the french "fou" pronounced "foo" meaning mad was more appropriate, given that they appeared so jinky and manoeverable to the allied pilots who reported them. A firm origin would be welcome. Even without the "foo" bit, I can see no reason at all why the "fighter" part of the name existed. Both halves are a mystery to me.

Here's something I found @ www.rense.com;
>In the years to follow, during the war, allied pilots would begin to report sightings of unidentified flying objects "tailing" their aircraft. Soon these things were dubbed "Foo Fighters," An animated character at the time named Smokey Stover used to say "Where there's foo there's fire," so someone nicknamed the craft Foo Fighters. Sightings were varied. Some sightings were lights. Others were silver discs.
The sightings of these UFO's during war time, as one might imagine caused quite a stir. The Army Air Force put a lid on their discussion by pilots and the OSS investigated all sightings, as it was thought at the time that the "Foo Figfhters" could be a new weapon by the Axis Powers. Jacobs, UFO Controversy, p. 33
Although these UFO's were seen throughout the war, the "perception" of what they were was controlled by the military, as personnel and eye witnesses were ordered not to discuss these sightings for fear they could be a "superior technology" or "weapon" of the enemy. In fact there wasn't any mention of these sightings in the media until 1944. Later it was learned that Japanese and German pilots had been seeing the same things during the war, and speculated that they were the product of "allied technology." <
Typically American, isn't it? (the reason for the name, let a non-existent entity name something)
