Scrapbooks, Diaries and Journals

Post by Bez »

Inspired by Ravens and Voodoos Scrap book that they shared with us at the weekend, I have decided to start one of my own....a bit late in life to make it a 'life history' but anyway, I'm going to give it a go.

Does anyone else keep diaries, journals or create scrapbooks...?

Well I used to keep a diary for quite a while, but after time I just found myself to be entering the same things day, in day out, and so I stopped and haven't done anything since. I think that it is a great idea to keep memories of your past, as it is a great feeling to be able to look back at your past memories, and remember all those happy, sad or funny times that you had during your life.

I keep the scraps - just not in a book.

My wife calls it clutter!

I have a photo frame that I made into a sort of scrap book of my grandfather. He died when I was just one year old. In the centre of the frame is his photo from when he was in the Army, he was a Royal Bombadier. On one side of the frame are his war medals and on the other side are a lanyard and uniform badges and buttons with the Royal Bombadiers insignia on. I also have some of his other medals, a medal box and some coins that were stashed with his medals, all in the frame and surrounding his photograph.

Just as a btw, I frequently feel as though someone is right behind me or I catch sight of someone coming down the stairs or walking into a room, yet when I go to look, there's nobody there. I think this is my granddad, as this shadowy figure has been with me for many years and at many different addresses. I always wondered, if it was him, why he would stay with me and not my younger sister, to protect her. Then I realised that she wasn't born when he died and so perhaps he is protecting me as I am the youngest grandchild that he knows. That's imo anyway.

I have about ten scrapbooks I've made over the last few years. It's a fun, but expensive little hobby.

My sister in law is heavily into family history so she has lots of info. I will be seeing her in the summer so she'll bring me up to speed on any new things.

My daughter has a pictorial family tree on her living room wall...... we scanned all the old pictures, turned the more recent into black and white and resized them all to fit one size of frame which she got from Ikea. It's always a talking point in her house and better than an album because it's there 24/7 for everyone to see.
