Things to think about.....

Post by Rapunzel »

If the world were 100 people, there would be:

57 Asians,

21 Europeans,

14 from North and South America,

8 Africans,

52 would be female,

48 would be male,

70 would be non-white - 30 white,

59% of the entire world's wealth would belong to only 6 people,

and all 6 would be citizens of the United States,

80 would live in substandard housing,

70 would be unable to read,

50 would suffer from malnutrition,

1 would be near death,

1 would be near birth,

Only 1 would have a college education,

99 of them will not see this message,

because only 1 would have a computer.

When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective,

the need for both acceptance and understanding

becomes glaringly apparent.

Rapunzel, you're such an obvious choice for the next Archbishop of Canterbury that I'm wondering how to persuade the selection committee. If you set your wand aside for a bit, and borrow a full purple bishop regalia complete with crook and pointy hat, and post a pic here done up that way, you'd make our day and we might even get you the job.

The "70 would be unable to read" might be that so many are under 6 - over one in ten, if I had to guess. Or maybe most still don't have lighting after dark, and the ones out of daylight get included?

That is beautifully put Rapunzel. It really does go to show the huge difference around our world, and as you say the need for a better understanding and appreciation for everyone out there, regardless of where they come from, what colour your skin is, or what level of education they have. After all we still all are human beings.

So whites are the minority!!

That would make it alot easier to be a communist planet. IM sure those 6 people wouldnt mind sharing the wealth with the others. I would if it were me. Maybe we would take better care of eachother because it would be simpler.

Im onto this Darfur thing you guys. I cant believe our idiot president wont help.

You'd probably be the one token European in chains and about to be deported! :wah: *kidding*

Seriously though, it would be interesting to know how many of the 100 would do something outside of the law (probably 99!) and how many of them would have a criminal record.

I'm betting they're talking adults and daylight hours. There's a vast number of people in our own country who can't read or write, there must be millions in the Third world!

Spot, you are hilarious! I just love your sense of humour! I do actually own a purple skirt of such a violent hue that it stops traffic!! :wah: I did debate wearing it last Saturday, but was afraid of blinding people! Also, I think I would have been blamed for stopping all the traffic in Trafalgar Square!!! :wah:

Beautiful. It is the brightest written word I have seen today. Where did you get that?

I'll vote for you for the Canterbury position.

It is almost Friday night where you are Rapunzel. I would hope someone would take you out tonight and show you some wit and wisdom, tomfoolery, fun and frivolity & mystery and magic.

Rapunzel, another is after engaging your affections and he's far better at it than me!

That's really thought provoking Rapunzel....kinda puts things in perspective doesn't it..

I was trying to imagine those 100 people living in one street....6 millionaires in mansions one end (with american accents ):D 80 in substandard housing, the rest probably like 'us'....yes ...very thought provoking.

Thank you for posting.
