Abs, I kow exactly what you're looking for and why. Go to the board, stay on the home page. Look in the address bar at the top of the screen, and click on the address. (That will highlight it.) Then right click to get a box and go to "Copy." Then go to your email that you are writing, and within the text, wherever you're going to put it, right click again, and go to "Paste" The link will appear in the text. Also, if you are going to add specific areas of the forum, go to the specific thread, and do exactly the same thing, and THAT link will take the people who need to know right to the thread. Make sense?

Uniform Resource LocatorI think there's a URI meaning Uniform Resource Identifer as well as a URL, but I'm not sure what the difference is between them. Maybe someone else on here can help with that.

It's something of an obsolete term that gets continued colloquial use because it's familiar. There's a guidance document which puts it this way:

URL is a useful but informal concept: a URL is a type of URI that identifies a resource via a representation of its primary access mechanism (e.g., its network "location"), rather than by some other attributes it may have ... The phrase "URL scheme" is now used infrequently ...(that's at http://www.w3.org/TR/uri-clarification/ ) - the URI (Uniform Resource Identifer) does include "Web Addresses" (those "actual address of the site/page that is being viewed" as Arnold said, starting http:// ) but your browser can take lots of alternative addressing schemes (like ftp, gopher, https, file) - all of which are URLs and URIs.

When Web Addressing was being discussed around 1994 on the w3 mailing list, there was a flurry of debate around what to actually use as a sensible default subdomain name for webservers. Everyone was tending toward "www." which ended up being what happened. The fuss was that so many syllables were needed - doubleyou doubleyou doubleyou dot compared to for example "w3." which is just doubleyou three dot. My sole attempt at cleverness there was to suggest changing the pronunciation of doubleyou to wee for this single instance, so we'd have had wee wee wee dot. I still think it might catch on if you buggers out there just used it. I'm playing a long game, see.

You'd need to ask Nomad for the full detail, Chonsi - he was the member there, not me.

Looking at http://w3.org the About page says:

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international consortium where Member organizations, a full-time staff, and the public work together to develop Web standards. W3C's mission is:

To lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure long-term growth for the Web.
