World Cup football

Post by meltonpie »

Am I the only person in the UK that couldn't care less about the World Cup? I am sick of the TV football trailers for it, I bemoan the cancelling of any interesting programmes to make way for more and more of it, and I shall scream if I hear another word about the state of Rooneys foot!

There's trailers for the World Cup on TV? You must watch the wrong channels, old mate. I'm sure the BBC hasn't mentioned it once yet.

Are you thoroughly recovered yet?

I thought Germany was hosting the World Cup this year - surely that tones down any interest within the UK, except presumably some fans are waving banners with "1 - 5" in large letters.

Which of our teams are playing anyway? All four?

The point I was making that the BBC are dreadful for advertisments, albeit of their programming. But then, I guess you don't care!

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all won their groups with ease, and England scrapped through.

Best of luck! I would like to joining you, but how are you going to do it? Sell the tele, cancel the papers, barbed wire around the house, family members on guard duty .............? And can you stand everyone calling you a miserable old git? I think we are going to find being a minority very hard.

DG, I beg to differ it is huge here in California my neice gained a schlorship to Stanford (she is a genius also) for here Soccer(Football) skills, she also plays for the National U-21 team that travels the world. It is the one sport girls can excel in and they have. Of course it's not as big as it is in the UK but very popular as a team sport all kids can play. Mind you I'm a huge NFL fan as well love both sports totally.. ;)

I dont watch PRO sports for the simple fact they are all primadonnas making too much money. They prance around and act like Arrogant a-holes.

Now, College, I watch Football, Soccer (especially womens, Cali Lady), Basketball, and even Rugby when its on. And my whole point was its not that big here compared to there. I didnt mean it wasnt a big sport period.:D

Scotland kept a clean sheet throughout the qualifying stages.

Their defence was magnificant at all times, and the midfield stifled any attempts by the opposition to create anything, and were forever pushing the other team back into their own half.

The two forwards were a constant threat to the opposition.

I love football (soccer) ! My dad and my brother played for local teams and my sister in the US is a certified referee. I shall watch every England game and any of the others whenever possible.

The US has a good team and I think they will have a good chance off getting through the group stages.

Sooooo....Come On England !!!! :)
