Ok we have seen some cool comments about how mature we seem here (all of you stop laughing behind your hands)

I wanna throw out this question for fun, if someone started a nasty rumor about you right now here in FG how would you handle it? Would you loose it and get defensive and make a scene or would you just blow it off, laugh and carry on.

NO NO it is not happening I just am bored and want to know how you all would act.

Come on out an play, it's friday and if you are in boggy soggy weather I am feeling sorry for you, it is sunnnnneeeeee here.

So go on give it a stab.

Mmmmm...I hope I would be tactful but I would probably turn a bit 'frosty' for a while. I doubt I would have a blazing row (in public) but it's hard to say. I tend to take things to heart so I would be 'boo hooing' to one or two of my friends here via PMs...be warned :D

I'm not sure what I would do, probably depending on how bad the rumour was I would put one post in defending myself then ignore anything else said. If it wasn't anything too serious then I would just go along with it.

What have you heard about me? :wah:

There is probably much that hasn't been said about me but it doesn't seem like it.

Rumours can be quite funny or deadly depending on the comments. In real life I tried to create a rumour about myself once and failed miserably. Other people succeed at it much better. I'm just not a good liar. I suppose, to some extent, it is better to be talked about than not at all...in the end there is little one can do to stop it, all we can control is our reactions.

I guess it depends on what is being said. if it's a character assasination, and other people believe what's being said, then one has to stand up and be heard. If it's just 'silliness' it's probably right to IGNORE.

Yes, you have a point, Bez. How would one defend themselves so, this is the internet and all?

I am glad it is just a thinking question and is not something that is happening here.

I think personally I would have to eat the offender for lunch....

Riiiiight

ok I would state my case flat out, and defend myself then let it go and ignore it. I feel I am getting old because confrontation sure does not float my boat like it used to many moons ago.

Difficult to say Chonsi. These are all hypothetical thoughts and I have not been personally involved in such circumstances in the real or cyber world thanks goodness.

No no Chonsi, this is NOT related anything at all, I was just curious as to how us mature folks handle such situations.

Thinking back to my teens, I would not have been able to let things just "roll off my back" funny I feel old suddenly..... sigh

I can't think of anything anyone could say to throw me into a full blown hissy fit. If it pissed me off too bad, I'd just leave for a few weeks and wait until other rumors were started about others :wah:

Since I am pretty new here, I'm sure I would take it too personally.

One of my problems is that I like to be liked.

Gotta remember that respect is more important.

Please don't hurt my feelings and make me sad!

At least until you know me better:)

My mood at the time I find out goes miles toward how I react. If I'm in a good mood, virtually nothing can shake it. If I'm already down on myself for something, I'm definitely less predictable.

Agreed.

If I'm edgy or feeling negative, then I'm more liable to react emotionally vs. rationally. I would react with my heart instead of my head.

And maybe regret it:-3

Well i know for a fact if it was me i would go all out to prove that the person making the claim was a flat out liar, i really dispise liars. I would also encourage anyone to just ask me straight out if there was anything that they wanted to know :) ..i dont see a problem with that, honesty is always the best policy . In general liar's are stupid they believe themselve's to be superior they invent thing's to make themselves look interesting or make them the center of attention and by putting other's down it make's them feel better about themselves ,, they also forget that they may have skeletons in their own closet that they may not want anyone else to know about,,fight fire with fire thats what i say and head straight for the jugular :) :D ;)

i think everyone likes to be liked dosent matter how new they are here.

i think we'd all like to be liked and respected and talked nicely to.

i think the problem is that all people jump to conclusions to quickly without knowing all the facts and dont always bother looking for the truth once they've decided on what there opinion is.

i think most people are to quick to judge and dont give other people the benefit of the doubt. people are very judgemental overall i think and it can be very hard to get people to see that you meant something in a nice or funny way once they have decided that you are being unkind or thoughtless or mean for some reason.

this is ment as a thoughtful post and i am not being judgemental to anyone here just saying what i think about life in general

Interesting responses.

Me?

I’m 60 years old and after my life to date it’s unlikely that anyone COULD start a rumor about me that didn’t have at least a grain of truth somewhere in it!

(Well, rule out pedophilia, cruelty to animals, or converting to islam.)

Otherwise I might play along with it for a laugh!
