since there's little but silliness here, let me ask this:

i was watching an early monty python episode last night. a man uttered 'STROOTH!' in surprise at seeing something. i've heard strooth many times before, but just what does it mean? is it merely a contraction of 'is the truth'?

I think Pauls right...it's probably a derivation of old language.

He HE....I bet you're thinking of 'strumpet' minks...he he

I'm sure when spot appears he'll give us the right answer.

If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't the word used a lot in Crocodile Dundee..makes me think the word is used a lot in Australia, but it used to be used a lot here in the UK...and still is.

Church wedding with 100+ invited, then reception at Hotel with a further 50 in the evening.

This is the first church wedding.

My daughter got married in a Registry office, and my Eldest son went off and got married in Jamaica.

Believe me ...i shall really savour this day and I'll post pics just as soon as i can. I'm going to give my camera to my brother so he can take some pics.for me.

Bez wrote: just to finish off the meaning of the word STREWTH..I had no idea this thread was here. May I throw in a couple of lines?

Strewth is English-style swearing (which is based on religion and not on body parts or products). The Australians still use it too, as much if not more than we do. It stems from our civil war which the Puritans eventually lost, as a result of which they had to become the United States instead. Those of us who eventually won swore foul oaths designed to annoy them. Strewth is a contraction of "God's Truth!". I personally prefer the uncontracted "God's Teeth!" and seem to have brought up four children who also employ it during moments of stress. It's a lot better than having a household accustomed to effing and blinding.

Crikey, blimey, they're all still in regular use - "By the Keys of Christ" and "May God Blind me if it is not so", respectively. Swounds is somewhat archaic now, "By Christ's Wounds". Then there are uncontractable extremes, and "By the Bowels of the Risen Lord" (bowels being a 17th century term for mercy) is simply not going to hack it for anyone any longer. Regretably.

spot considers whether Snooze might have been remotely aware of a major potential verbal embarrassment in that expression and decides it isn't possible

and, as we all know, a Fenland Quant is at least 16' long, that would be a VERY painful procedure!

Anyone still getting problems today?

Still finding that pages are blank when moving to new threads, have to refresh 2/3 times sometimes before page appears?

Is it my tired and worn out old equipment or is there still a problem with FG?

forumgarden's systems are still having some difficulties. they occur during nightly recurring processes (pacific time - which corresponds to late morning UTC). we are working on them, rest assured, as i hate being awakened at 4am.

That way you can track down the nastiness and fix it at a more acceptable hour before reverting to the original schedule. You may possibly find that shifting the processes to a busier period triggers the problem(s) more frequently, making the system easier to debug.
