Cake Decorating and Sugar Art

Post by Sheryl »

This past weekend on the Food Network it was wedding weekend. I watched several shows on wedding cakes. And I was totally blown away with some of the cakes I saw. I've now decided before I die, I would like to go to the Sugar art contest held every year in Tulsa Oklahoma.

Does anyone here decorate cakes, I've tried but I'm not steady enough to draw a straight line with pencil, much less with a piping bag.

Jr Minks and I watched that show ... simply amazing isn't it. I wish I could do anything remotely pretty like that.

Jr Minks is looking to take a class in the summer to try her hand at this. (I think the beau is going along too) Me I have no patience for it. But cool show.

I saw part of that show, the cakes were gorgeous. I watched up until the part of the Japanese wedding cake, all the pieces of the tea set made out of sugar!

Chronsi, did you hear the guys price for the Japanese wedding cake. If it was to be made for a customer, would cost them $5,000. I about fell out of my chair.

That's cheap for a wedding cake. There was someone at that competition that said theirs would run about $25,000. I have a friend whose cake cost about $7800...just for the cake. Yeesh. When I think of the dent that seven grand would make in my mortgage....
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

The say the average cost for a wedding these days is $40000. That's 5 grand short of what my house cost. :-2
