And this is the point we're trying to make here. Very well said anastrophe. What we, as individuals, choose to do in & with our lives, as long as we don't bother, injure, or intrude on others, should be our own business. Gay marriages are not a bother, injury, or intrusion to anybody. It's what 2 consenting adults choose to do.

motorcycles are incredibly dangerous. they're not called donor-cycles by accident. innocent people get hurt all the time in motorcycle accidents. we'd better ban them.
And where, my dear Paul, did I imply that consenting adults should NOT do what they choose to do? I simply stated that I am opposed to it. I would never tell a gay couple what they should or should not do, and I know many. One who happens to be VERY close to home. Him, I'd like to strangle. But that's another story.

you had stated that homosexuality is not "acceptable" - that can be read two ways i guess - 'not acceptable to you', and 'not acceptable period'. often when someone says XYZ is not acceptable, it means they would prefer steps be taken to actively prevent XYZ from taking place. however, there's also passive opposition which would describe what you said above.

since i enjoy stating the obvious, i'll point out that i'm somewhat notorious for parsing wording to the nth degree. in casual conversations, that can annoy the hell out of people, and for that i apologize.

I have agreed with that viewpoint all along!
So why oh why are motorcycle riders now coming into the equation to take some flack when everyone agrees that it's unfair to generalise and assume?
I rather think that was anastrophe's point. He's not picking on motorcycle riders. He pulled an example out of the air. I didn't get that he was saying that motorcycle riding should be banned; just the opposite. He was engaging in hyperbole.
I was just putting my point of view across that to say motorbikes aren't safe is a load of wallocks...it'd be like saying walking on the pavement isn't safe in case an idiot car driver isn't paying attention and mounts the kerb.
Should we all stay indoors for the rest of our lives?
Again, you make the point. What I got from anastrophe's postings was, as he said, that there is no 100% safe activity. There is danger in everything, from getting out of bed (known to cause heart attacks) to going to the bathroom (don't get me started on those deathtraps) to putting on your shoes. Simply because those actions carry inherent risks is not sufficient reason to ban them, particularly when doing such things causes no harm to anyone else.
You're agreeing with him, whether you realize it or not

i've been a passenger on a motorcycle a couple/maybe three times. in addition to being scared out of my wits, i was also completely thrilled with it. i've always wanted to actually 'drive' a motorcycle (it's interesting how whether you're at the throttle or just hanging on behind someone, you're a 'rider').
i'll never, ever own a motorcycle, or be the actual person on the throttle. because i know within one week i'd be an organ donor. when it comes to speed, and acceleration, i have almost no self-control. if the highest number on the speedometer was 170mph, that's how fast i'd try to go.

Yeah, uh....Paul? Do us all a favor and stick to that determination NOT to get a motorcycle. Thanks ever so....
