I think I fell asleep over my keyboard last night. Grin. Woke up and it was going on midnight. But I had such a good evening. We indulged in some surreal capers and I needed that. Grin. It was Winter Solstice Eve too and being online probably stopped me getting pneumonia from lighting a bonfire outside and dancing naked round it - as one does at this time - with flowers, um okay dead leaves, in my hair.. a glass of wine in one hand and my flute in the other. I don't know why I do stuff like that. Sometimes it seems like a good idea at the time. Hic. Anyway - it's still pitch black outside. Maybe I'll go light a fire shortly, to encourage some good Aussie Sunshine.

Pinky - I once saw it in at Stonehenge - before they roped off the area. You could sit on the stones. Druids were cavorting there, and among them was a very pregnant woman all dressed in a white robe with a green wreath on her head. The whole place kind of reverberated with ancient magic. Enjoy the beach

Stonehenge is now a sanitised national monument. Most of the time. It's way pre druid. And will survive the yobs.. and probably go on forever, being itself, uncaring of human stupidity.

Don't you love the old tales of the menhirs? When I was at school I had a German teacher who came from the LÃƒ¼neburger Heide, in the north of Germany, which had lots of celtic history. I'll never forget her reading some old stories to the class. One was about a town which had been so evil it only rose from the mists once in a hundred years (Hollywood turned this into schmaltz in Brigadoon) and another about a would-be robber who tried to steal the gold hidden beneath the menhir when the stone was going on its yearly pilgrimage. Brrrr... I still get goosebumps at the thought. And these tales crop up in Ireland, in Cornwall, in Brittany.

Take the tree for instance... It was the centre of the universe in the old norse myths.. Ygdrassil. And there was another tree in the Garden of Eden. And another at Calvary. The druids rather liked trees too.

One day a few weeks ago, I climbed a hill above the Tuscan village I was staying in - came to a five way little crossroads at the top.. just farm tracks, and in the very middle was a most ancient twisted oak tree. And high up in the oak tree was a small female statue .. a Madonna of course!!! - Of course!! Not Diana or whatever way earlier earth mother. And around the base of the tree someone had put bunches of wild broom, all golden and glowing.

This of course has nothing to do with whatever we were talking about......... grin. And I still havent had my coffee. Gotta git this show on the road.
