Acts of kindness toward animals
My heart was broken yesterday, I was watching a woman walk a crippled dog, arthritic maybe. It really tore me up, I hate to see that.
I AM AWESOME MAN

As hard as it is, sometimes the best thing to do for our animal friends is to put them out of their misery. I hope I never have to make that decision with my older dog. She is 14, has arthritis, but can still play like a puppy.

I allowed my cat to live after she pulled about 12 feet of toilet paper off the roll. Believe me, that's kindness. :yh_frustr

Well, our act of kindness actually happened back when Rick adopted our guinea pig, Scooter from one of his co-workers, as she was going to put him down, only because they no longer wanted him

OK. My oldest dog is stolen. My mom's neighbor used to beat her with coat hangers and not feed her. She was infested with mange. I waited til it was dark one night, my mom and I put her down stairs in the basement, gave her a bath and I took her home. She has been mine ever since. That was 6 years ago.

Well, this happened a long time ago, but I think it's a good story and appropriate for this thread.
When I was working at the animal hospital, we had a woman bring in a dog and a cat. She was a new client, and we figured she was coming in for routine vaccs and an exam. You know, the basic stuff. Turns out, she was moving, and the place she was moving to did not allow pets, and she was there to have both her perfectly healthy animals put to sleep because she didn't want to "bother" finding homes for them!!! While I was in the exam room talking to her, I tried to talk her out of it, saying I would take them myself until good homes were found. She turned me down flat. Then I got angry. I asked her if she had any clue how horribly selfish she was being, and then I told her what I thought of her.
She wanted to stay while they were being put down, but I told her we didn't allow that. It took some doing, but I got her out of the room, threatening her with bodily harm if she didn't get out of my sight.
Then I handed the receptionist the sheet for what procedures to charge for, and we charged her up the wazoo for 2 euthanasias.
Then I went back to the room, got the 2 animals, placed them in cages and had them placed in new homes, the cat in 3 days, the dog in 9 days.

Putting down an animal that is suffering was not hard. I knew their last moments were spent with a loving hand on them, and they were being relieved of their pain. But there was no way in HELL I could have stuck a needle in either of these animals. Perfectly healthy, young, full of many good years, and that royal bitch just didn't want to bother. I wanted SOOOO bad to clock out and go meet her in the parking lot. :yh_beatup
