Betty Boop's Lovely Brown Cardigan

Post by theia »

Betty Boop has a lovely brown cardigan. She bought it in M and S back in the winter. I find it hard to describe but it is the most lovely brown cardigan that I have ever seen.

I would love a cardigan like Betty Boop's but therein lies a problem, well, two actually: M and S no longer stock these cardigans and even if they did, I am on an economy drive at present and couldn't afford to buy one.

I need help. How can I get a lovely brown cardigan like Betty Boop's?

I have considered several possibilities, one being that, if Betty leaves her cardigan lying around, I could secretly steal it. However, Betty never removes the cardigan whilst in my presence and besides, I'm not a thief :)

Another course of action would be to keep saying to Betty that I would really like a cardigan like hers and hope that she takes pity on me and offers it to me. You may well ask, "Why should she? It's her lovely brown cardigan, not yours." I would answer, "I am getting on in years, you know, and my chances of ever owning a lovely brown cardigan like Betty's are getting slimmer." And I would add, "It isn't much to ask!"

A third possibility would be to imply that Betty doesn't look good in her cardigan; this could lead to her not wanting to wear it anymore and then I could say to her, "Oh, Betty, if you're not going to wear that old brown cardigan again, I'll take it off your hands."

However, I have already tried the last two options and they haven't worked. I would be very grateful for some more suggestions...

I want that lovely brown cardigan, and I don't ask for much in life...

(I hope Betty doesn't read this thread. I wouldn't want her to feel uncomfortable or obliged to give me her lovely brown cardigan.)

You might consider swapsies!

What lovely item of your own could you offer Betty Boop to tempt her into parting with her lovely brown cardigan?

Perhaps she would like one of your own lovely cardigans but in a different shade.

or

You could tell her that brown is so past tense and that black is the new brown!

Be creative, if you want it SO badly, you must try harder!!!!

Perhaps you could set up 'Brown Cardy Share scheme'. Although a small payment may have to be forthcoming in order to support this scheme, your obvious enjoyment in wearing the cardy on a one week on and one week off arrangement will more than compensate. :D

Try Ebay!

There are currently 8 brown M&S cardigans on Ebay,

I thought this one was very pretty. (scroll down for bigger pic)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/M-S-LONG-SUMMER-C ... dZViewItem

Of course, you could always look under 'brown cardigan' or 'cardigan' to get a bigger variety of choice.

Happy hunting Theia and keep your naughty paws off Bettys cardi, you little pickle! ;) :wah:

The heating is on full, the sweat is pouring off me but I'm not taking my cardigan off!! :p

How did she know I'd be wearing it today!

So...my cunning plan didn't work...damn!

I'm sorry to say this about a friend but Betty wears it just to taunt me..

Ah...she has just said she will swap her lovely brown cardigan for my £200 water feature that my son bought me several years ago. Is this a bargain?

What about an outlet store, where some of the brown cardigans might still be on the rack?

Hmph. Maybe a little too late, but here's my suggestion:

Get her to join in the hooters for neuters fund drive Valerie mentioned. When she disrobes, grab the cardigan .... and take pictures. :sneaky:

Thank you all very much for your suggestions. They haven't yet secured me the cardigan but I remain undaunted. I'm off to try some visualisation...

You guys crack me up!!! I'm literally rolling round the floor in helpless mirth. I can't see the cardigan really well. Would like more information on the colour. "Brown" is not enough information. Rust, orange brown, walnut, golden brown, pinky brown, coffee,.. etc.. COFFEE... arghgthghghghh... gotta have c o f f e e , but I digress... back to the cunning little plan.

Stealing, Theia.. um... if a third party clobbered Betty Boop.. (sensitively.. she's a great shiela and I er the third party would just give her a small tap) and liberated the article of clothing in question we wouldn't need to involve the hooters for neuters and your conscience would be clear. You wouldnt be able to see BB again of course, but that's a small price to pay for what must be a really magnificent cardy.

And the FG would see Betty Boop right. I think Management's gold card is still stashed behind the bar in Bothwells. A mink coat with water features might be acceptable, do you think?

In the meantime, this is a drama of epic proportions, worthy of a limerick if I could only think of a rhyme for cardigan!!!

Next time she comes round, tell her you've gone off brown, turn the heating up ...she'll take the cardi off and put it on the back of a chair....when she goes for a comfort break (don't forget to give her humungous cups of tea), discreetly push it down the back of the chair.....keep her talking so that she'll be running late and go off in a rush FORGETTING all about her cardi !!! Job done....:sneaky:

next time she's over, accidently spill something on the cardi. Then offer to take it to cleaners for her. when she asks for it back, apologize offer a pint and say the cleaners lost the cardi. But of course you'll have it stashed in your closet. :)

The trouble is, Bez, Betty is now aware of my interest. Do you know that even my dining room door handle tried to grab her cardy by the sleeve as she walked out? Betty remained unphased and just calmly unhooked it. So, even with help of inanimate objects, I can't get near it.

Did I hear Pammie mention the "t" word??

Arnold, can I ask for tassly things on the bottom of it, like Betty's? And it's not just brown, it's sort of flecky. Actually it might be better if you asked Betty to send you a photograph because well, without wanting to appear fussy, which of course I'm not, I would be devastated if it wasn't exactly the same.

(I don't know that it's got buttons, Arnold...and the sleeves are sort of floppyish...not that it matters of course :yh_liar )

Oh, and thank you.

Perhaps Betty could send the actual sweater to Arnold, so he could thoroughly examine it and then knit up a duplicate for Thiea??

I wonder who will get the original now....?????:D
