Hummingbirds and honeysuckle

Post by valerie »

The place where I walk has long stretches where honeysuckle has grown

rampant, places it's 8-10 feet high or better, growing up into trees.

This time of year it's chock-a-block with blooms, creamy white yellow

and the aroma is heavenly. They are long lasting, too, so for days

now I've been able to enjoy them.

Hummingbirds are enjoying them, too, little flashes of irridescent blue

or green moving among them, trying for the best nectar. I often stop

and just watch them for a few minutes, every once in a while a

particularly bold one will fly over almost in my face and look at ME.

It truly is a great thing to carry around with you all day and return to

when you need to...

Aw, Val that sounds like a little piece of heaven. I can almost smell the honeysuckle from here. *sigh* That was really a nice post.

Oh, Snooze....you just brought back some very nostalgic memories for me. When I was very young, maybe 5 or 6, we had honeysuckle bushes in the yard, and my sister and I would do that all thie time.....*sigh* I love nostalgia. :-4 :-6

I couldnt' believe it the first time I saw a humming bird. We don't have them in Australia. I thought I'd been buzzed by a crimson bee !!

I agree absolutely!!! They are unbelievable!! Nothing I'd read about them prepared me for the reality.

That was such a lovely thought for the day. You must be happy anticipating your walk the next time, in anticipation of more of those beautiful birds.

Yes please!!! This is a bit of a tangent but at least in the same mode. I have a four year old underfoot at the moment and today he was given two jelly beans as a reward for taking his cough medicine. He gazed at them in his hand, one blue, one white, and said "I am happy". Life should be full of such moments. Grin.

Wednesday I went to my truck to eat my lunch. No reason other than it was relatively cool (88) and a breeze was blowing. I watched as a hummingbird came to the bush (sage, I think) right next to the truck and hung out with me for a couple of minutes. I'm eating lunch in my truck until my lunch buddy stops coming around. :-6

there's a restaurant about a half hour west of here, in the middle of no where, that has hummingbird 'nectar' hung just outside the windows. It was cool to watch them sitting still while they drink. Wish I'd had a camera with me! :-4
