Testing the Health Service
Yesterday I had the need to put our National Health Service to the test, when my wife, Betty, collapsed on the bathroom floor. I think I was lucky in some respects for an ambulance was here in a matter of minutes and the care of the “on-board†medics was wonderful. She was taken 19 miles to Grantham Hospital and was dealt with by the A and E team immediately. There was a bit of a problem getting her heart stabilised, but yesterday afternoon things were a lot better and she was quite perky. She has to stay in hospital for scans and tests etc. and I understand that there may be some permanent damage, but we shall know all this in due course.
I really cannot fault the care that she has received, and what angers me somewhat is that, because of the present financial crisis in our NHS this Grantham hospital is likely to be closed down. Criminal!
Had to interrupt this to dash and get a load of washing off the line. It would have been dry, but along comes a thunder shower. Domestic bliss!

i'm glad your wife is okay and wish her the best in her recovery..
The national Health Service and Social services is in absolute mess, all due to massive overspending services are being cut everywhere, the demand is there but the money isnt. I've seen countless people losing there jobs everyone is sitting on the edge of there seat wondering if they are going to be next on the hit list
..Its bad management of funds ands and resources and now the people who need the services most are going to suffer if it continues.

I've done this going in to hospital every day thing. It suspends time going round in circles in such a repetitive way. Do keep us posted, MP, and say you've had good wished here for her recovery next time you visit.

Melton, my best wishes to your wife for a speedy recovery, hope that she is soon back home with you.
I think our NHS is pretty good compared to some places but that we spend money unwisely - e.g. I don't think we should be offering fertility treatment on the NHS. Whilst it is VERY upsetting not to be able to concieve, it is not life-threatening and people just have to accept that the NHS can't deal with everything, there have to be choices made and I feel that some things are going to have to be excluded.

Please wish your wife a speedy recovery from me also Melton.
With regards to the NHS, I have always found that myself and my family have always had excellent, speedy treatment, whether it has been road accident emergencies (my husband, daughter and 2 sons) or other health problems. OK, there are problems...mostly down to management, but we should value it.
