Proud to be an American.
Proud to be an American.
I know I posted the words to this song in Nomad's thread, but I did not want to hijack it with a little personal story tied to it.
I have mentioned that I was married in December 2001. As we all painfully know, a couple of months earlier our country was shaken by an attack.
Anyway, fast forward back to my wedding. After the benediction, I had prompted the person giving it to ask everyone to stand up after the prayer. We all held hands..at our tables, and Randy, the guy giving our benediction, said we were dedicating this song to the people who lost thier lives in September.
We played this song. Lets just say it was very cathartic, and there was not a dry eye in the house. :-1

Title: Proud To Be An American
If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘ Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.
And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.
That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
And I’m proud to be and American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,

I'm glad I'm not the only one. What a powerful song.

Proud to be an American.
That song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. We have it on the jukebox at work, and I play it a LOT. Funny, my customers bitch about a lot of the songs I play frequently, but never that one.
Me too....Proud to be an American!!!!

Bullet's trial was a farce. Can I get an AMEN?????
We won't be punished for our sins, but BY them.

Proud to be an American.
What a nice story, Marie.
The irony of the horrid attack was that it pulled all Americans together, making us in some ways stronger than ever:-4
