This lady from the UK is still breastfeeding her 8 year old daughter, and feels it is perfectly natural...as the family is very much in favor of organic foods and natural eating.

The daughter is perfectly content and never wants to stop!!

What do you all think.

I am not a parent, and I am not sure if I have an opinion.

My guess is that it's purely for the mother's comfort.

If I were to come across this in public, I admit, I'd probaly stare. I'm not sure how I feel about he whole idea. Breastfeeding till ages 1 or 2 is ok, but till 8 seems strange to me.

That is bizarre! I stopped breast feeding as soon as they got their teeth!

There has to be a point where breastfeeding stops being "natural", and this surely must be it.

There is no longer any benefit in this to the daughter. In fact I'll go so far as to say I think it's damn right disgusting. I'd be interested in knowing what a Phsycologist would make of it.

I'm not a parent either, and I'm not sure if I should have an opinion on this, but I do. I think at eight years old it is bizzare to be breast feeding, and did I read this right, in PUBLIC?? That's too much. Eight year olds should be playing soccer and climbling trees, not breast feeding. I think the mother is just being selfish.

I think its VERY DIISGUSTING. If she wants her daughter to have an immune system like a mack truck and get the vitamins and minerals from it, why cant she at least pump and put it in a glass for petes sake?

I actually watched the tv documentary about this a couple of months back, and as a parent myself, I found this quite disturbing to say the least.

The mother breastfed her other kids aswell, who were not babies either.

As far as I can remember I dont think the mother had any plans to stop doing this anytime soon, but I personally think that it wasnt fair on the 8 year old girl. What about when she gets older? I mean, not that they'd be doing it in public, but now that most people in the UK saw the programme, surely this poor kid will be bullied about this?

All in all I think its unacceptable.

She's sick. She needs psychiatric assessment. And the kids will probably also need help.

My friend nursed her kid till she was six. She was a more holistic-type person. The girl seems to have no ill effects. In some countries it is common practice to nurse children that long.

Anyway, I nursed my son till he was around a year and a half and the same with my daughter. But by the time I weened my daughter, I was just fed up. I wanted to be able to take Advil and cold meds again and I was tired of giant boobs and stares. My daughter went to a bottle for a couple of months- for comfort, and then took to sippy cups. My son went straigh from my breast to sippy cups. But he was very upset that his sister got his "num num". So I guess that it was a comforting thing for him.

Let's think about this from a natural perspective. Nature weans babies. Birds stop feeding and mammals stop feeding and that's the way it goes. Even when the babies are reluctant to begin finding their own food...good mothers push them gently away until they get the message and begin foraging on their own.

This woman might be nuts...or she might be looking for attention or it could be considered sexual.

(Do you suppose she'll go along on her kids' DINNER DATES?) The mind reels....
