Nervous wreck

Post by BabyRider »

God, but I hate July 4th. I love what it stands for, but right now in my neighborhood, the two parallel "rival" streets are having a fireworks battle. There are so many things going off around me, most of them I'm sure by the sound of them illegal, and it's making me very jumpy. Those big M-80's that sound like gunfire, and God knows what else...I feel like I'm back in the ghetto again. Once shift change for the police rolls around, these idiots will be shooting off their guns, which will not make me feel any more calm. It's been non-stop for the past 2 hours, with no end in sight. I'd like to sit out on my patio with the shotgun and dare anyone to light off one more freakin' firework. God I hate this.

Have to say that I like fireworks, but only at organised displays.

I've got to agree with clancy, it seems that here in the UK, people tend to start letting them off weeks before the 5th of November, and infact they seem to use any excuse to go and let some off.

As always, and as come to be expected, its mainly the yobs that cause the serious problems over here, any excuse to cause havoc. They normally do it by throwing them at people or attaching them to various distressed animals.

We do have new laws in place with regards to fireworks, it's just that the police seem to be spread to thinly on the groun d to be able to do much about it.

Also, we have the safety aspect. Every year around the 5th of november, there is a huge rise in firework related accidents and fires in general. What better excuse than to ban non- organised fire work displays?

Last night Buster was pretty scared as all the amateurs lit off there fireworks haphazardly. Every time he would nod off, he would jump awake immediately and start barking.

It took a few tries to finally get him to bed for the night.

My sis-in-law lost her dog permanently one July 4th. Someone in the neighbhorhood lit off a huge firework, the dog immediately ran out of the yard, and the poor thing was never seen again.

Didnt we all ?

I live in a suburban neighborhood, and it gets pretty rowdy here too. It started on Friday night!!

Trixie was totally twisted up..she went from racing around her cage, biting on the bars, to just burrowing herself down underneath her wheel. Once I ended up taking her out and just having her sit in her carrier next to us...just to help her calm down.

The fireworks scare the crap out of domestic animals, they scare the pensioners, and I have to admit, when I'm not expecting it, the ones that go off like field artillery, make me annoyed. They changed the law here about fireworks, but as usual, there's always some toerag who gets their hands on them, pre and post the alotted date.

Toerag. . . now that's funny right there.

Too bad I haven't a clue what it means, but it sounds funny. Made my whole day!

I live near Detroit, Ray, and I wasn't afraid for my safety, I was just so damn jumpy, what with everything else going on right now. You'd have had to have been here for a few months in order to really understand why.
