you know where he asks you to count backwards from 300 but keeps talking, can you pay attention to that bit & still count?

i had to give up & just listen, its complicated enough i felt with his voice bouncing between the two speakers, i lost count :yh_blush

gotta say the wake up part was great, best bit, actually did feel really refreshed

im on my second pint of water, im surprised how difficult it is to drink lots of water, how you doing?

Hiya Buttercup,

I haven't listened to the CD yet but I've been reading the book over the last couple of days and what our hunky Paul has to say makes a heck of a lot of sense!

Yay! Go Paul! (What a cutie!)

I've searched the entire town for his journal and cannot find it anywhere though!

Buttercup, would you be able to send me a copy if I sent you the money for purchase and postage? Or would you be able to briefly put any points he has to say on this thread? Thanks hunny. :yh_hugs

Ohh, btw, I was thinking about you struggling to drink water and wondered if it would help to put a 'flavour' in it? You could use sugar-free squash or even large mugs of tea or coffee, after all they're mainly water. I usually drink water or tea, but I've switched from PG Tips to Twinings Green Tea Blend, which has a gorgeous flavour and the green tea is stuffed with antioxidants and very good for you!

Hiya Rap!

I just love your doggie graphic :-4 It is sooo cute!

Well Rap, we're doing just fine today. Just came in from a long walk all around the neighborhood. Of course, Buster must stop and inspect every vertical thing in his path . . . and then often mark it with his 'presence'

He thinks he is the King of the Neighborhood.

Has no idea that any of the other doggies could put him away for breakfast!:D

this is not easy, in fact its upset me a bit & i feel quite negative which is irritating as ive been positive so far, i think if i just had to look at say my top half i'd be ok, its not often we look at ourselves in a full length mirror is it? all i see is my belly's

i'll be glad when today has passed

Liz, that is such an important realization

The thing I find so important is *getting back on track* when you fall off

But it seems you have optimistic AND realistic expectations

Which I feel gives you a much better chance at success:)

*And that is my pep talk for the day*:D

I remember in his TV show, Paul McK said "Look at a baby who has just learned to walk. Everytime he falls down he just picks himself up and starts again. He doesn't just sit down and think "Okay, that's it, I'm never going to be able to walk so I might just as well sit here forever", he just gets up and starts again!"

And in his book he says the same thing - that you're BOUND to fail at some point! But you just have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again! Which is great because I've done well for the last 2 days, but at the end of each day I've had a piece of chocolate. Now I know this isn't a 'diet' as such, but as everyone whose tried dieting at some point in their life knows, chocolate is a 'bad' food!

However, today I made burgers for dinner and had 3 on my plate, but was full after 2, so gave the last to my son when he came home. Normally I would have eaten it, just because it was there!

Today has been a good day for me because I emptied a room full of furniture, took apart an old wardrobe (which had about a million screws in!), packed it all up and took it to the charity shop. Then I came home and opened my new bigger (woohoo) wardrobe (which is in about 20 large pieces and is VERY heavy!) and carried them upstairs to the bedroom. We can't put it together tonight as you need to bang in some nails and it's a little late for that! However, normally I would have been tired after just unscrewing the first wardrobe, because it was a pig to do, awkward and heavy, and some of the screws just went round in circles instead of coming out nicely. So I feel much more energetic today than usual, I REALLY hope this keeps up!

Liz, I'm REALLY glad you're seeing this through to the end cos I know that if you stop, I'll stop! I'm rubbish at sticking to things like this when I'm on my own! Please can you pm me your address and I'll send you the money for the journal and postage. Thankyou so much for posting Day 5 of the journal. I can write down what I want to put in it now. Hugs sweetie :yh_hugs

Hope you enjoyed your wine! Hic! hehehe

Hi-ya buttercup and Rapunzel, you both sound so up-for-it and very positive, you are doing brilliantly, keep it up.

Rapunzel, don't think one small piece of chocolate a day is going to hurt you. I think that's where a lot of people make a mistake when trying to lose weight, if you deny yourself totally of something, then your mind goes into "overdrive" and it becomes the one thing that you think about and constantly crave. Far better to treat yourself to one small piece of choccie a day and remove the craving.

(p.s. freeze it and then it will last ages in your mouth!)

Proud of you both, keep it going!:D :D

Choco is right. Believe me, I know . . . I'm from the All or Nothing school of thought and it can really do you in.

its the mirror for me, its a battle, i feel positive until i look then im deflated when i do & then i have to work on getting positive again

im finding its best to listen to the c.d first thing in the morning, its easier said than done of course as it means getting up an hour earlier which i havent managed every day but the days i do go better than the days i dont

Buttercup and Rapunzel, gosh Day 7 already, what a week you have had and how brilliantly you are doing. You are showing great staying power and positivity, you must both be so pleased and proud of your efforts.

buttercup, don't get too disheartened about the mirror exercise, none of us really like our own images or voices come to that, we think that people notice every little imperfection but that just isn't so, most of the time we make mountains out of molehills.

Keep strong both of you, you are doing SO WELL.

kind of dealing with the mirror image thing quite well now in that ive decided to wear high heels, they elongate me & therefore i look slimer & therefore a more acceptable shape making it easier to feel good :-6

ok its a bit of a cheat but if it works & i feel positive, whats wrong with that

drinking the water has got easier & im able to have 2 pints per day no problem, never thought that would happen  i should really attempt 3 now !!

done some gardening today & used that as my excersize but to be honest i should have really gone walking, i have no excuse for not

day 9

ive to sign a commitment in the journal today, its below

I....................... promise that for at least the next 81 days, I will eat whenever I'm hungry no matter how i feel about it.'

if i end up fatter at the completion of this 'i will not be amuzed'

something else is bothering me with the walking im doing, for those that dont know i lost my much loved pupster at easter & so im having to find new routes we never went, as she lived to such a good age this is not easy & i often find myself overwhelmed with sadness at the loss of her, i had debated the gym or swimming but i doubt i'd keep it up, its quite a distance from my house & of course if i dident keep it up i'd have to deal with the negative feelings of that so it looks like its walking & sadness, maybe i could offer to dog walk for someone, then of course i'd feel commited to keep it up after the 90 days & im not sure i'd want that responsibility

 i'll have to stop thinking, im doing my head in

Buttercup, I had no idea you lost a special animal in your life

I can see the difficulty you're having walking the same routes

Perhaps, over time, you can 'revisualize' the situation: think about your beautiful dog seeing the world through your eyes as you walk around your neighborhood

And enjoying her company in your heart as you work to improve your life

She will always be with you:-4

Harls, I see you already know the difficulty of making changes to feel better about yourself

If and when you are ready to make this change, you will.

And when the time comes, you'll be ready for it:-6

I think & know I need to do the lose weight project, but I honestly think I hide behind my weight.

As soon as some one tells me I look like I have lost a little weight,I start to think I am a Paris model & eat twice as much & put all the weight back on again.Something not right there,is there ???

Oh Harls, your problem is not unique. So many of us struggle with weight and self-esteem issues.

I've found that you can only gain control of the situation when you are *ready* to do so. Not when you think you should be ready . . . but when you truly are.

In the meantime, it helps to celebrate all the wonderful things about yourself!:-6

OH BUTTERCUP, THANKYOU VERY VERY MUCH!!! :-4

The journal arrived this morning! (Our postmen are slow! Lol!) I didn't visit FG yesterday so missed the previous messages. Not having had the journal I kinda feel as though I'm trailing by a week, so if you don't mind I think I might start again today and use last week as a practise week.

I've been reading through the journal and I really do think its going to be very helpful! I was okay with the mirror thing until the weekend. We have a couple of small bathroom mirrors and one full-length but only 10" wide mirror. So that was okay. But at the weekend we put together a new mirrored wardrobe (I thought it would make the room look bigger) but unfortunately you can now see yourself - all at once - in glorious tehnicolour! This is not good! :lips:

And yesterday wasn't a good day as I got very little sleep and so was tired and grumpy all day and ate too much out of boredom! Yikes!

Paul McK has some very interesting things to say, such as:

Scientific research shows that more than 90% of people who attempt to lose weight by dieting fail!

That means that less than 10% succeed! And then for how long? Most people seem to lose incentive and put it all back on plus more besides! (My favourite fridge magnet used to say "Diet is Die with a T. . . !)
