To the boat - you cannot help but relax cruising along at 3 miles an hour with nature on every side. Just enough work doing the locks to keep you alert - bliss.

Italy, South of France, but under no circumstances the UK.

Over priced, dirty, very poor value, very poor service, geneally a dump.

Sorry, I simply can't stomach the place or the majority of the people that I have encountered.

Why do you have to constantly criticise the UK, golem?

Partially because it warrants being criticised precisely for the reasons that I quote, poor value, expensive, dirty, and so on, and partly because I know it so well.

Once I would have sided with the UK, but over the years it has gone right down the tubes as a place to visit.

Certainly there is some pretty countryside and Cornwall and Devon are exceptionally pleasant but the prices charged and what you get for what you pay is a joke.

For what I pay for one night in a far from luxurious hotel in London I could stay for a week in a hotel offering pretty much the same standard of accommodation and VERY MUCH BETTER food on the Cote dÃ¢â‚¬â„¢Azure Ã¢â‚¬“ and frequently have done.

But take Cornwall. I went down there the year before last with two of my grandkids. They had both just turned into teenagers and it was a (probably) once ina life time Ã¢â‚¬ËœtreatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ Ã¢â‚¬“ go with Zaider on one of his trips abroad. What a rip off. Park the car Ã¢â‚¬“ pay one pound. Even if you were visiting the Ã¢â‚¬ËœattractionÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ that the car park was a part of.

Ice Cream? One of the admittedly better things, but the price? Around 2 pounds for a half decent sized cone. Can of Ã¢â‚¬ËœCokeÃ¢â‚¬â„¢? around 75 pence from an ordinary outlet. IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ve seen some machines charging a piund for one, thatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s around $1,40 US. For a 330 ml can of coke.

Go for an evening meal, two adults, two kids? DonÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t expect much change out of a hundred pounds in a supposedly decent place, NOT a 5 star restaurant but a Quay side specialty fish place, and one that served what can only be described as mediocre food. Not even near as good as Ã¢â‚¬ËœThe CanneryÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ in Vancouver (for those that know it)

And the filth. Dirty beaches (are they EVER cleaned of rubbish?), RUDE people, dirty shops, horrendously expensive rubbish as souvenirs, the list just goes on and on.

That could be it. Im sure I could stand in the middle of the Sahara and find beauty. For a few minutes anyway.

It seems like you could have gotten your message across in a less inflammatory way.

Especially since so many of our Garden friends live there.

I understand your content, but your form needs work.

Gosh I don't have a Sanctuary, I like to see all over the place, I guess for a fast escape it's off to the mountains. For peace and soul healing it's the west coast and Vancouver Island. Ok maybe that is Sanctuary of sorts.

Golem gosh pity you don't like the UK. I have to say if it is a place you live far away from like myself, to go and visit and quite literally "experience" I completely fell in love with the tiny part of the UK I managed to see and frankly can't wait to go back again.

Oh, I forgot I live were many vacitioner's come from all over the world San Diego a paradise all its own. :-6

Oh indeed you do, I have been to your fair city a number of times and would like to get back again some day..... you're city is very similar to mine,,,,, minus the snow, hehehe

My official holiday entitlement on the HR database is 365 days but I have trouble getting any time off - I think I've averaged 20 days a year over the past 5 years.

I totally agree about San Diego. When we visited California it was the one place that impressed me more than any other - beautiful.

One of the most fantastic holidays I ever went on was a barge cruise! 12 of us aged 18-24, we cruised from sun-up to sundown and stopped at every pub en route! What a hilarious and fantastic holiday!

Unfortunately, I've never visited anywhere outside the U.S., but one of my favorite spots here, besides home, is anywhere surrounding the water, lake, ocean, pond, it doesn't matter. I find serenity and peace on the water.

Luckily, for me, my home is on water, and it's something that I never fail to be grateful for. We live in a world chock full of beauty, in every corner, in every space, and everyday, if we open our eyes wide enough, and take anough time, we'll see something new that is awesome

Agreed! If your looking for natural beauty it can be found anywhere!

I am lucky enough to live in the centre of natural beauty, and it never ever fails to take my breathe away!
